Information On the Upper Peninsula's Ten Major Downhill Ski Resorts Big Powderhorn Mountain is located on the western tip of Michigan's majestic Upper Peninsula, between Ironwood and Bessemer, Michigan, 2 miles off U.S. 2. There are a total of 25 ski trails in the ski area, 35 percent beginner, 35 percent intermediate, and 30 percent advanced. There are about 250 skiable acres at the mountain. The longest run at Big Powderhorn is 1 mile long. There are 9 total double lifted chairs and a hand tow. The lift uphill capacity per hour is 10,800. Snowmaking is available on 90 percent of the ski area's hills. The Average snowfall is 214 inches per year. Its summit elevation is 1,840 feet. Its vertical drop is 622 feet. The skiing hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. (Christmas Day 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) The following restaurants are located at Big Powderhorn: Main Lodge Cafeteria The Blackjack ski resort is located in Bessemer, Michigan, on U.S. 2. There are a total of 21 trails in the ski area, including a 1/2 pipe and snowboard park, trails consist of 20 percent beginner, 40 percent intermediate, and 40 percent advanced. Average annual snowfall is 210 inches. There are 4 double-lifted chairs and 2 rope tows, with an uphill capacity of 4800 skiers per hour. The skier vertical drop is 456 feet, with the longest run being Horseshoe at 5300 feet. Snowboards are welcome on all runs. Also included on the hills are the Mogul fields, Spillway and Cameron run. A free beginners area consists of the rope tow areas. NASTAR holds their racing and training at Blackjack. Ski hours: Lifts open for skiing 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, CST, daily.
