Introduction
Welcome to the network Tug-of-War (ToW) server. The Rules of Tug-of-War are below. Tug-of-War supports games with more than two players. Up to four players may play together by including all of their userids in the "tow challenge" command. Other commands are the same as all pbmserv games, except that the "preview" and "submit/confirm" commands are not allowed.
Rules of Tug-of-War (ToW)
Up to four players take turns placing "bids". High bidder gets 1 goal point from each other player. First player to take an average of 5 points from each other player wins. Each player starts with 1000 bid points and goal points. Minimum bid is 1 point. If at the end of a round you have 5*(nplayers-1) or more goal points, you win. If you have no bid points remaining at the end of a round, you are *out*. (You will continue to lose goal points to other players).

How to play tug of war with your dog - and have the happiest dog on the block.
Play tug of war with your dog. Let your dog win. Your dog will love you for it. This article consists of two parts. The first part is a (very) brief introduction to tug-of-war and the philosophy of natural dog training. The second part is a step-by-step guide to playing tug-of-war with your dog. Feel free to skip right to the guide, if you’d like – but I promise that the introduction will be worth it – and not take up too much of your time. Oh, and one more quick thing before we dive in – the warning. I am going to teach you how to play tug-of-war with your dog in the safest way possible, but it would be unwise of me to not point out the obvious:
WARNING – dogs have sharp teeth, and while they typically know how to use them, they occasionally miss the tug toy and bite your fingers instead. To be FULLY protected you should wear (at a minimum) some durable leather gloves, a long-sleeve shirt, pants, and close-toed shoes/boots. The facemask is probably a bit overboard, but hey, it never hurts to be cautious. When you play with your dog, pay attention to what you’re doing. Keep little children AWAY from the play zone. Don’t let ANY children play tug-of-war with your dog until they understand the rules of the game. Always have your dog on a leash ( use a LONG lead for training ). Ultimately, you are choosing to play tug-of-war with your dog at your own risk. So, with all that in mind, take a deep breath, stay relaxed, and pay attention (please).

U.S. presidential race formaly starts in Iowa

Comment Tell A Friend Print Format Save Article The new year of 2008 has just set in, but Iowa and New Hampshire have to immediately shake off the holiday mood and kick off the caucuses for the US presidential Primary scheduled respectively on Jan.3 and 8.
Since 1976, Iowa Primary has become the first candidate-selection campaign, in which voters discuss their preference to a certain candidate, and choose delegates pledged to a particular candidate to go to the party convention. A total of eight Democrats and seven Republicans vying for 2008 presidential candidacy met here Thursday to seize the last minute to recruit more voters.
More often than not, with the competitions in both parties still too close to call, the leading candidates would go all out to race on colleges campuses or in mall towns to make their last pitches, so as to cultivate and feed their preference groups to remain viable and exert more influence on the primaries and caucuses before staging the last contention of mouth and tongue.

Tug of War Over VoIP Universal Service Fund Contributions Continues
June 2, 2006
Seems like the back and forth regulatory tug of war involving the FCC and VoIP service providers has entered yet another round.
According to a report by Paula Musich of PCmag.com, the FCC is once again weighing to tax VoIP services to the tune of 10.9 percent of 65 percent of revenues in order to line the coffers of the Universal Service Fund an archaic regulatory remnant designed to protect rural America from the old Bell System monopoly. The fund apparently brings in around $7 billion a year from interstate and international calls and is designed to subsidize the cost of providing phone service to poor and rural subscribers.
Apparently, this move by the FCC is designed to help offset a projected loss of $350 million in the fund due to the coming August exemption for DSL and broadband Internet services.
I expect VoIP providers to continue to wage war over this, and to take strong issue with the suggested contribution percentages...but at some point I believe a deal will inevitably be reached that will require VoIP service providers to ante up something to the fund (unless of course some arrangement can be reached to make this fund go away an idea that has been mulled over in the past.)

For the Upstairs, Downstairs episode, see Tug of War (Upstairs, Downstairs) Tug of war Tug of war tug o' war , or tug war , also known as rope pulling , is a sport that directly pits two teams against each other in a test of strength. Two teams of eight, whose total mass must not exceed a maximum weight determined for the class, align themselves at the end of a rope (approximately 10 centimetres in circumference). The rope is marked with a "centre line" and two markings four metres either side of the centre line. The teams start with the rope's centre line directly above a line marked on the ground, and once the contest (the "pull") has commenced, attempt to pull the other team such that the marking on the rope closest to their opponent crosses the centre line, or the opponents commit a foul (such as a team member sitting or falling down). A contest may feature a moat in a neutral zone, usually of mud or softened ground, which eliminates players who cross the zone and/or fall in. There are tug of war clubs in many countries, and both men and women participate.

Tug-o-War
A team test of strength and cunning, Tug-o-War might be just the right party game for a bunch of rowdy children on the back lawn. But the key to a good game of tug of war is to make certain that the rope used is strong enough to handle the number and size of players. The main safety issue with Tug-o-War is that synthetic fibers can stretch and snap under excessive pressure in the same way a rubber band may. In technical parlance, this is called "synthetic line snap back". People have actually been killed playing tug-o-war from this phenomenon. But this should not keep you from organizing a fun game of Tug-o-War for your next children's party (if it is to be played out-doors). Yet making use of a rope made of natural fibers is highly recommended. To play Tug-o-War a field is laid out. Two parallel lines are painted about 20 feet apart on the grass or drawn in the dirt. The rope is laid perpendicular to these lines. A cloth flag is tied to the middle of the rope. Two teams of relatively equal weight are chosen. They are required to position themselves along the rope on either side of one of the lines leaving the center area (or no man's land) empty. The referee holds onto the rope at the point of the flag as the rope is gradually made taught. He makes certain the flag is positioned precisely mid-way between the two lines. On his own command, he releases the flag and shouts, "Go!". Both teams then pull on their end of the rope. The object is to pull the flag over the team's goal line.

The Coming Tug of War Over the Internet
By Christopher Stern Sunday, January 22, 2006; Page B01 Do you prefer to search for information online with Google or Yahoo? What about bargain shopping do you go to Amazon or eBay? Many of us make these kinds of decisions several times a day, based on who knows what maybe you don't like bidding, or maybe Google's clean white search page suits you better than Yahoo's colorful clutter. But the nation's largest telephone companies have a new business plan, and if it comes to pass you may one day discover that Yahoo suddenly responds much faster to your inquiries, overriding your affinity for Google. Or that Amazon's Web site seems sluggish compared with eBay's. (Optic Cable Fibers, By Dennis Brack Bloomberg News)

But the Italian government, suspecting that it had been plundered from Italian soil, soon began pressing the museum for information on its provenance. This week the krater was finally packed up and shipped to Rome, one of 21 treasures turned over by the Met under the terms of a pathbreaking 2006 accord.
