Middle School teams from all over the Colorado Region participate in this fun, educational and exciting event. Teams work together building solar and/or hydrogen fuel cell cars with guidance from a parent or teacher coach to compete in race and design categories. A "Spirit Award" is also presented to the team recognized for good sportsmanship. Building of solar and hydrogen fuel cell cars for the JSS/HFC car competitions require skills in both math and science. The primary goals of the JSS/HFC program, is to generate enthusiasm for science and engineering at a crucial stage in the development of young people. The competition also helps improve students' understanding of scientific concepts and renewable energy technologies; and encourages young people to consider technical careers at an early age. TIE NOW EXISTS FOR THE TOP SPOT ON THE ALL TIME MSCS FEATURE WINNERS LIST Briscoe also finished the 2006 season tied in all time wins with former MSCS Champion Mitch Wissmiller. Clayton was just one victory behind them with 5 wins. A victory by Clayton on Memorial Day weekend at Haubstadt in 2007 had made it a three way tie. A month and a week later Clayton found victory at Tri-State Speedway in the KISS-MSCS Challenge to assume the outright lead in victories with 7. Briscoe then took the August 18th feature at Jefferson County Raceway at Mt. Vernon, IL, and the two were tied once more. That tie would not be broken again in 2007! The last three races produced two new winners. Chris Windom won his very first MSCS feature Labor Day weekend. Then Robert Ballou won at Florence and Lawrenceburg in a successful fall campaign in the region that included these two MSCS races. Windom joined 22 other drivers who have earned one feature win. Ballou became the 21st driver to have 2 or more MSCS career victories. In the 12 main events held in 2007 six were solo victories on the season for drivers. Mat Neely won the season opening event for MSCS which was held at Tri-State Speedway. Kyle Cummins followed in May with a win at Western Kentucky Speedway and he was on his way to the series driving championship. Cory Kruseman picked up a win in a MSCS appearance at PIR in Paducah, KY, in August. Hunter Schuerenberg took $10,000 at the Hoosier Sprint Nationals at Haubstadt the next night. Briscoe and Windom, mentioned previously, complete the solo list.

Top Story: Calistoga tentatively listed on USAC-CRA 2008 schedule By Bobby Gerould January 18, 2008. - The long rumored return of non-wing sprint cars to Calistoga Speedway is one step closer to reality with the release of the USAC-CRA sprint car schedule - issued last week. August 30th, and August 31st are listed as tentative dates. The last non-winged sprint car event at Calistoga Speedway was held on September 28, 1985. Anticipation of a return to Calistoga's roots has long been championed by race fans who remember the half-mile dirt rack as a staple of traditional sprint cars from it's first race in 1937 through 1985. The speedway has run sprint cars with wings since 1986 although non-winged midgets did appear from 1993 through 1996. (August 23, 2007) – In what proved to be the most competitive O'Reilly Sprint Bandits Tour 'N Topless Midwest Swing yet, it was only fitting that a pair of drivers ended up knotted atop the points charts for the TNT title. A pair of Northern California natives, both from winged racing backgrounds, proved to be the cream of the crop over the course of the week with Rocklin's Robert Ballou and Campbell's Tim Kaeding tying for championship honors on the Third Annual O'Reilly Sprint Bandits TNT Midwest Swing.
