Waterford capture Munster Championships
Posted by The Administrator on Jan 22, 2007
Waterford A captured the Munster Club Championships for the first time ever on Sunday beating Nenagh 3-2 in a superb final. The Waterford club had reached the final four times in the last six years with it's A and B teams but the wait was over as Vincent Muldoon, Jonathan Grant and Joe Corrigan got them over the line to lift the title. Nenagh had wins from Mark Walsh and the superb David Hogan but it was not their year this time round as Waterford avenged a bad defeat in last years event. Waterford, Nenagh, New Vic D and the Crucible now represent Munster in the draw for the All Ireland's next weekend. David Hogan picked up the high break for the event with a superb 116, his second ton of the event with Brendan Cooney also having a 112 earlier in the competition.

    What is Snooker?
ad_unit_target='mainAdUnit'; X Close this window Snooker is a billiards game, or cue sport, that - like most forms of billiards - is of British origin. Snooker is a slightly more modern version of 16th century billiards and is played using 22 balls – one cue ball, 15 red balls, and 6 different colored balls – with different point valuations. A regulation snooker table measures 6 feet (1.86 meters) by 12 feet (3.66 meters) and has four corner and two side pockets. Points are scored by striking the cue ball with the result being a successful pocketing of the other balls into one of the six pockets according to game rules. The game is played in matches, which are comprised of a predetermined number of frames. The object is to score the most points per frame to win the majority of frames in the match. Though snooker is played recreationally, it is also a professional sport with numerous tournaments held annually and the elite World Championship match held at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, England. Professional snooker has a governing body that sets the rules and regulation for play. Following a brief hiatus in the popularity of the sport during the mid 1960s, The World Snooker Association was founded in 1968. Today, snooker is a popular and well-respected sport with professional standings kept and followed by many fans. Since its inception in 1977 until 2005, the World Championship was sponsored by

    Maguire Storms to UK title
Stephen Maguire is the new Travis Perkins UK champion after a stunning performance against David Gray in York. The 23-year-old Scot defeated world number 14 Gray 10-1 to collect the £70,000 first prize.Gray's consolation was a cheque for £35,000 plus another £31,000 for his maximum 147 break against Mark Selby in his opening match. But the night belonged to Maguire who now has another piece of silverware to go with last season's European Open title.
It was the biggest winning UK final margin since Ronnie O'Sullivan's 10-1 win over Ken Doherty three years ago. The match lasted just under three hours and Maguire required only 20 minutes to turn his 8-1 first session lead into an outstanding victory with breaks of 80 and 122. ..more
Francisco Bustamante Wins the P1-million Hope All-Filipino Billiards Open
FRANCISCO 'Django' Bustamante pounced on a key error by Alex Pagulayan in the 28th frame and hammered out a nerve-wracking come-from-behind 15-13 victory to claim the P1-million Hope All-Filipino Billiards Open title last night at the IBC-13 Studio in Quezon City.
With Bustamante leading, 14-13, Pagulayan's stab at knotting the count evaporated when his shot on the 1-ball bubbled and stopped at the edge of the corner pocket. Bustamante then seized the opportunity and polished off the frame for the victory, which netted him P500,000. Pagulayan, who again lost despite surging ahead early in the match, pocketed P200,000.
