Sail With Us!
We're a University of Michigan student organization, open to the public. Our members are students, faculty, staff, alumni, and many others in SE Michigan who love to sail and windsurf. Join us at our waterfront clubhouse in Dexter, and meet friendly new people while enjoying the sport of sailing - over spring, summer and fall. We offer a unique and affordable opportunity to learn and practice the art of sailing. Originally founded (in 1938) to provide sailing facilities for a small group of naval architects, our primary mission now is to develop our members' skills in all aspects of sailing. For the beginner, there is instruction. For the more advanced, there are advanced clinics, racing, teaching, boat repair, and the use of trapeze and spinnaker equipment. Come to Baseline Lake and try us out! Your first two visits are free of charge or obligation. The only prerequisite to participating in club activities (including lessons, racing and more), is that you know how to swim. If you're new to sailing, we recommend that you begin by visiting the club on a Saturday morning anytime between 9 AM and Noon, and sample our sailing or windsurfing instruction. No reservations or advance notice needed. If you're familiar with sailing and want to know more about the club, stop by any weekend (or weekday afternoon after 6:30 PM, in summer) to check out our fleet and facilities. Don't forget to look at our calendar to see what special events may be going on this week.

EDITORIAL COMMENT LOG ENTRY
Happy 2008 to each and every one of our readers. May 2008 be a memorable and safe sailing year. The cover pic of this issue shows an earnest Dominique Provoyeur concentrating hard as she competed in the International Rolex Women's Keelboat Championships. Dominique is our Sailor of the Year - and our heartiest congratulations to her, and obviously her crew who have all played a massive role in her success. An interview with Dominique is on page 12. Our Sailor of the Month award would not be possible without the continued support of MDM Marine Services, North Sails and Sparcraft Masts who all contribute to the generous cash prize the Sailor of the Year receives. And, quietly in the background are four judges who are taxed every month as they sift through the nominations and decide on the monthly winner. My thanks to them for their continued support.
