About Rowing
Rowing (called crew) is a sport of fitness and finesse that speaks to people of all ages and abilities. It involves balance, strength, and core fitness, and also provides great opportunities for body strengthening, rehab, and overall toning. Rowing appeals to those inclined to roll themselves out of bed in the early morning hours, sit in absurdly skinny boats precariously balanced on the water, and watch the ever-changing spectacle of the sunrise (all before coffee time!). BCR offers rowing opportunities for novice, advanced, and competitive rowers. Most of the training takes place in sweep boats holding eight or four people; other training is available for those interested in the more-solo experience, in either single or double sculls. BCR's recreational rowing and training (called Novice and Advanced Fitness Rowing under Sweep Programs ) is for those wanting to get a taste of what the experience is all about or simply continue their enjoyment of rowing. BCR also offers training and racing opportunities for those wanting to compete in local and national races/regattas (See

Thanks for Your Support! A Year In Review
2007 was a great season for Strokes and you made it possible with the most generous contributions to-date. The results were reflective of your support. We trained nearly 100 new rowers - that's no small feat! It takes a community to raise a child and so goes the same for raising a rower. Our Learn-to-Row Program ran for 5 sessions. We already gearing up for 2008. This year we had out largest Novice Program in Strokes entire 18 year history - starting out with 52 people. Coach Rob and the cadres of assistant coaches had their hands full. The average practice had four eight-man shells on the water. The best news - a lot of our new rowers are coming back for their second year of rowing. Bringing in new folks is one our biggest jobs, but we also have a competitive streak. We took the heat out on the water beating rival Capital Rowing Club at their own regatta - the men's eight walked the CRC men's eight. While we love our CRC brethren, it sure was fun to beat 'em.
