WELCOME
If you love performance rallying, you've found the right website. Here you'll find a collection of articles, photographs and other things relating to stage rallies. Most of the material is from events of yesteryear. With the help of many contributors, we're working on building the photo library of cars and drivers in action from the 1970s and '80s. If you want to see what it was like back then, downshift and enjoy. Anyone can help out, either in terms of identifying pictures, adding pictures or other source material. If you can identify a car or event, (and you'll find a number of unidentified pictures) fill out the contact us form and let us know so we can update the information. If you have pictures, routebooks or something else you think others would like, let us know, and we'll figure out how to add it to the site as well. Many thanks to everyone who has shared stories, memories, photos and more. Eric Anderson

Red Kite Stages
Attrocious weather hit the crews as they tackled this event. Seb Ling showed he truly deserved his number 1 seeding by taking the win, with some very entertaining driving. There were some excellent performances, notably Dave Brick in third and Julian Reynolds, who took victory in the historics.
HRCR Open Day
Co-inciding with Autosport International once again the HRCR Open Day was held at the National Heritage Museum, Gaydon. A nice local event for us and with the added extra of an autotest, there was enough to wet the appetite.
Christmas Stages
Our first trip to Croft and it didn't disappoint, (even if the weather was challenging). 2006 winner David Bogie was locked in a bettle with Kevin Proctor and John Stone through the first half of the event. The deluge at the end of SS5 proved key as Bogie went off and Proctor punctured, leaving Stone with the victory.

"What do we want? Justice! When do we want it now? Now!"
This was the cry that was met by so many ears on September 20, 2007, which marked the day of the Jena Six rally. Students and other avid supporters rallied in protest of the unjust acts occurring in Jena, Louisiana.
It was a sector of the many demonstrations and protests that were promoted throughout the country. A congregation of about 400 students, a dozen news reporters, along with local television stations and other demonstrators gathered in front of the Soper Library at eleven o'clock in the morning. That day was a way for Morgan State University students to congregate and show their support towards the victims of the racially discriminatory judicial system in Jena, Louisiana. The Jena Six victims need support and that is exactly what they were given. Not only at Morgan State but other colleges as well. Supporters rallied, carrying signs bearing the words "Free Jena Six" and sporting black T-shirts, bearing similar paraphernalia. In addition a substantial number of students campus-wide wore all black clothing in support of Jena Six.

In the past year, the Klan has rallied or distributed fliers in Bloomington, Ind.; Amarillo, Texas; Denison, Iowa; and elsewhere. In each case, the white-supremacist group denounced illegal immigration or targeted communities with growing immigrant populations. "It surprised me they came," says police Sgt. Randy TenBrink in Amarillo, site of a rally in August by the Texas chapter of the Empire Knights of the KKK. It is the only local KKK rally he knows of in 30 years. "The content of their message surprised me. It was so disjointed."

Food Sovereignty: Global Rallying Cry of Farmer Movements
Also available in PDF format (190 kb). Peter Rosset*
Food sovereignty is the right of peoples to define their own food and agriculture; to protect and regulate domestic agricultural production and trade in order to achieve sustainable development objectives; to determine the extent to which they want to be self-reliant; [and] to restrict the dumping of products in their markets....Food sovereignty does not negate trade, but rather, it promotes the formulation of trade policies and practices that serve the rights of peoples to safe, healthy and ecologically sustainable production. Statement on Peoples' Food Sovereignty by Via Campesina, et al. food sovereignty not to use food as a weapon, or on the unpredictability and high cost of long-distance shipping, that country is not secure in the sense of either national security or food security.

One user writes: “i think this is a huge mistake by the companies. sure, technically its illegal. we get it, but I have personally introduced 2 people to the game of scrabble. “this is a huge! market for them. who plays board games anymore unless the power goes out? especially in the facebook generation. im sure the numbers are dwindling, thats why they are forced to constantly come out with electronic talking versions and other half baked twists on board games. however, if they shut down scrabulous and replace it with their own version, then i'd say its a good move.”

Print Email DENVER - Towns throughout the Rocky Mountain West that oppose mines near water supplies and scenic areas are backing efforts to revamp a federal law regulating hard-rock mining that's changed little since Ulysses S. Grant was president. A bill passed by the U.S. House in November would impose the first-ever federal royalties on gold, silver, copper and other metals mines, beef up environmental controls and give federal agencies the ability to say "No" to a mine that would irreparably harm the environment. For many, that last part is the heart of the bill. Under the 1872 law, federal agencies can scrutinize a company's plan and require environmental safeguards. But they can't decide, as they can with oil and gas drilling, that no development should occur in a certain spot.

Rallying with the Serbian nationalists
  • Mark Mardell 16 Jan 08, 09:05 PM
The streets of Belgrade are still brightened by Christmas decorations. Twisted ropes of lights adorn every tree down the main roads; a parade of miniature Christmas trees in bright white light paves the way to the city hall and, especially impressive, four big ones lit up in shimmering purple stand in one of the main squares. The Orthodox Christmas was on January 7 and Serbia is only slowly shaking its head free of holidays. Perhaps that is why campaigning has been so sluggish in the presidential elections Yet they could hardly be more important: looming over them is the all but inevitable declaration of independence by Kosovo, shortly after the election of a Serbian president. Kosovo politicians have been persuaded to delay their long planned announcement until after the vote for fear of inflaming and swelling nationalist sentiment.

Some choir! Only?!
As far as subjective impressions allow and in the admitted absence of rigorous data, I am persuaded that the religiosity of America is greatly exaggerated. Our choir is a lot larger than many people realise. Religious people still outnumber atheists, but not by the margin they hoped and we feared. I base this not only on conversations during my book tour and the book tours of my colleagues Daniel Dennett, Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens, but on widespread informal surveys of the World Wide Web. Not our own site, whose contributors are obviously biased, but, for example, Amazon, and YouTube whose denizens are reassuringly young. Moreover, even if the religious have the numbers, we have the arguments, we have history on our side, and we are walking with a new spring in our step – you can hear the gentle patter of our feet on every side.
Our choir is large, but much of it remains in the closet. Our repertoire may include the best tunes, but too many of us are mouthing the words
