The American Lumberjack Association, herein referred to as the A.L.A., is a group of sportsmen and women dedicated to furthering, upgrading and standardizing lumberjack sports. The Association is a sanctioning body which sets up rules governing sanctioned shows and competitors; maintains equipment; keeps records; mails regular newsletters to membership and holds two annual meetings. The A.L.A. board (click for email addresses)consists of four officers and four board members. Each sanctioned show has its own management and is run to suit the locality in which it is held. The A.L.A. provides the rules which accounts for consistency and uniformity for both competitors and sanctioned shows. Exactly one year ago today while leading a convoy back from LSA Anaconda, my HMMWV was hit by an Iranian Shape Charge. The charge penetrated the armor and promptly removed my right arm below the elbow and nearly my left as well. After hopping from Iraq to Germany, I finally arrived at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC on Christmas Eve. After 8 long months of therapy, surgeries, and thousands of pills, I went back to school to get on with my life. Despite a brain injury, loss of my dominant arm, and severe nerve damage to my remaining limb, I'm glad I went to Iraq. I'm glad I could take part in Iraq's future. Most importantly, I do not regret any of it.
