Sea Kayaking

The people, who live in British Columbia, are truly fortunate, with spectacular scenery and rivers, lakes and streams that offer some of the finest kayaking and canoeing in the world. Canoe and kayak vacations in BC are unforgettable. The different mountain ranges act as backdrops painting a canvas of blues and purples, the forests are a melting pot of greens and the lakes are hues of azure and deep navy blues. For sea kayaking, the BC coastline with the Pacific Ocean at its door step forms long, deep fjords and inlets that are teeming with fish and the lands are abundant with wildlife. The different topography and elements of this land are amazing and unmatched. One of the more interesting ways to enjoy the beauty and wilderness that comprise British Columbia is to canoe and kayak the lakes, rivers and the inlets throughout the province.

One of the most peaceful ways to experience Victoria and Vancouver Island is by kayak or canoe. These vessels allow you to view the Island from a unique vantage point and venture into many places inaccessible by boat or car. As you explore the coastal waters around Victoria and the inland lakes and rivers of the Island, the only sound you will hear is your paddle dipping into the water. Victoria and its surrounding area is considered to have some of the best kayaking and canoeing in the world. Vancouver Island has approximately 3,500 kilometres of ocean coastline, 700 lakes, 160 rivers and 890 streams in which to paddle. These waterways are located amid spectacular West Coast scenery and are shared by an abundance of marine creatures and wildlife. Whether you are new to paddling or looking for an exciting adventure getaway, allow a local guide to introduce you to some of the prime areas to kayak and canoe. Visitors can rent kayaks and canoes upon arrival, or bring their own equipment. If you bring your own kayak or canoe, BC Ferries treats them as hand baggage with no extra charge.
Vancouver Island’s paddling tours take care of everything; all you need to bring is your adventurous spirit. Follow your guide past a colony of sea lions or a pod of orca whales. Discover abandoned native villages with toppled totem poles or ride in the largest native whaling canoe of its kind in North America. Relax your mind, body and soul as you paddle into the sunset and soak up the last of the day's sunshine.

9. Dordogne Kayak And Canoe Trip
of a kayak and canoe trip along the French Dordogne river with names and addresses of campsites along the way.......
http://members.tripod.com/goedhart/dordogne.html
kayaking and canoeing on the French Dordogne river
This river can even be paddled with sea kayaks.
Summer 2006 has arrived in the old Dordogne valley Actual weather forecast at Méteo France Actual water levels in the Dordogne region July 2001, the river has flooded most campsites along the river at the start of July. This flooding came as a complete surprise, on my Dordogne kayak trip 2001 I was looking at a mighty river drowning half the Limeuil campsite. On July 23 2001 the level is dropping but still higher than normal for this time of the year. So the 2001 Dordogne trip is no success. People who want to paddle the Dordogne river should be aware that the river can be dangerous in times of heavy rainfall. So have a spare river in mind when planning a trip on this river. Think about the Mosel, Weser, Fulda or Lahn river in Germany. Short river description: The Dordogne river is a French river going from the Massif Central along Bergerac and Bordeaux to Royan at the Atlantic Ocean. We paddled the 130 km middle part from Beaulieu sûr Dordogne to Limeuil. The entire river can be divided into four parts: the upper river with dams, the middle part where the river descends at at rate of 0.5 m/km through a mountain range, the 1.0 m/km descending part from Limeuil to Bergerac where you find some dams and the part from Bergerac to the ocean where the river flows freely through an agricultural landscape. It's rather easy to paddle the middle part of this river, we used a large open Gatz Cherokee 5.50 m canoe, a smaller Gatz Mohawk canoe and three flat water children's kayaks.

Kayaking and Canoeing
Brecon Beacons National Park offers a rich diversity in waterways for paddlers, from the fast flowing white water of the River Usk to the tranquil calms of Llangors Lake and the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. There are several hire, guide and instruction companies operating in the Park that will be pleased to assist you. The River Usk flowing down the Usk Valley from Brecon to Abergavenny provides for good sporting kayaking, and after wet weather the section from Talybont on Usk to Crickhowell is particularly popular. The river is not navigable through out its length and access restrictions apply Perhaps the most famous of the Park's rivers is the Wye, touching the eastern end of the Park as it meanders its way from high up in central Wales to journey's end at the Severn estuary. Access restrictions apply . In normal circumstances the river can be canoed throughout the year from the tiny village of Glasbury above historic Hay down to the castle town of Chepstow, where the river flows into the Bristol Channel. The more expeditious visitor can accompany the river for several days, staying at accommodation along the way. Again, local companies will be able to advise and assist.

These light, maneuverable craft are easy to transport, can be launched from just about anywhere and can travel to places that are out of reach for larger boats. Wildlife watching opportunities are outstanding; kayakers often find themselves paddling with porpoises, watching the antics of a pod of orcas or seeing birds snatch fish from the waves. While the world of whitewater river rafters and Evel Knievel-class kayaking stunt artists tends to dominate Colorado Rockies paddling, several of the region's most relaxed rivers, lakes, and reservoirs offer pleasant paddles amidst the finest of the Colorado Rockies' panoramas.
Gunnison River
There is no motorized boat access for most of the quiet 50-mile-or-so stretch of the Gunnison River from Grand Junction in Northwest Colorado to Delta in Southwest Colorado. The pleasant paddle twists its tranquil way through captivating canyons of high red stone and shale walls. Amidst the cottonwood trees, a careful observer might spot blue herons, hawks, and eagles. If you're not ready to take on the full mileage, the river can be divided into approximately four 13-mile stretches with river access points at each end:
  • Delta's Confluence Park to the bridge at Escalante
  • the bridge at Escalante to Bridgeport Road
  • Bridgeport Road to the whitewater boat access
  • the whitewater boat access to the Redlands Power Dam
Curecanti National Recreation Area
Located at an elevation well-above 7,000 feet, Curecanti National Recreation Area in Southwest Colorado, just west of the town of Gunnison, offers three different fjord-like lake reservoirs for three slightly different kayaking flavors. The area's panoramic vistas, high-reaching, close-walled canyons, and deep blue waters make for a spectacular excursion no matter the lake you choose.
