Welcome to SierraClimbers.com, a site devoted to the great ice and rock climbing opportunities available on the eastern side of the Sierra.
Seeing as it's ice season, we've got information listed below on one of this area's best ice-climbing destinations, Lee Vining Canyon. Information on climbing in the June Lake area will be coming soon!
Below you'll find directions, links to ice reports and maps, and also information about area lodging, guides, and weather.
Location: Off of Hwy. 120 (Tioga Pass), just south of Lee Vining, CA, a little town about 25 miles north of Mammoth on Hwy. 395. To reach the canyon from Lee Vining, head south on Hwy. 395 for less than a mile and turn right on Hwy. 120. Proceed about 3 miles until just before you reach the closed gate. Turn left here onto Poole Rd. and follow it roughly north for 2 miles until it ends at the power plant. Park here and hike for 20-30 minutes (longer in new snow) until you reach the Main Wall. Lodging: Murphey's Motel offers ice-climber's discounts all winter long. They are located in the heart of Lee Vining, less than 10 minutes from the Canyon. Their toll-free number is (800) 334-6316 or visit their website at
