The intent of the Cape Fear Scots web site is to have a forum for people with an interest in their Scottish heritage.

31st Annual Flora Macdonald Highland Games
October
It has been said that one of Scotland's greatest exports has been its people. The Cape Fear river region of North Carolina is an area that has greatly benefited from this export, in particular during the 18th, and early 19th Century. These early immigrants had a very significant influence upon the subsequent development of southeastern North Carolina. Some of these early Scot settlers later migrated westward, but many of their descendants continue to live nearby. The focus of this site is on places and events in the Cape Fear region of North Carolina that should be of interest to anyone desiring to learn more about their heritage, and wishing to expand their knowledge of Scots in North Carolina. Also, to be included in this focus will be some of the rich cultural resources these early Scotch settlers left to posterity. This site is sponsored by the
Flora Macdonald Highland Games.

2008 Honored Clan President and Mrs. Michael Davidson, of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, will represent Clan Davidson USA, and its affiliates, at the Northeast Florida Scottish Games, as Honored Guests for the year 2008. Michael and Elaine have been active members of their clan since early 1980’s and especially kind people.
In 1995 Michael was elected First Vice President after serving as North Carolina Regional Director. Meanwhile, Elaine was elected Secretary-Treasurer. During that same period of time, Mike was also serving a term as a Director for the Catawba Valley Scottish Society, which is the sponsoring organization of the Loch Norman Highland Games in Huntersville, North Carolina. Later as Secretary for CVSS, Michael chaired several committees including that of Scholarship Awards.
Michael Davidson began his presidency of Clan Davidson in 1999. He endeavors to increase the number of his Clan’s regional directors across the country; and also to increase Clan Davidson presence at games throughout the nation. His continuing goal is to preserve Clan Davidson history and ancestral heritage of contributions to this great nation, as well as abroad.
Though Clan Davidson USA is a relatively small group, yet it enjoys slow steady upward growth annually. The Davidsons have been loyal supporters here in Jacksonville since our Games’ inception. The NEFL-SGF committee is especially pleased to welcome the Davidsons and septs as our Honored Clan.

Where all are Welcome! Tickets can be purchased at the gate. The Loch Norman Highland Games, held each April on the slopes of Historic Rural Hill in Huntersville, North Carolina, are one of the premiere events held in the metro Charlotte area. It is indeed a very special event unlike any other in the region. The Loch Norman Highland Games celebrates the heritage and culture of the Scottish immigrants who built Mecklenburg County and the Carolinas. It is one of the largest weekend events in the Lake Norman area attracting some 10-15,000 visitors and participants each year. People have come from all over the United States, Canada, and as far away as Scotland, Ireland, England, Australia, and even South Africa to enjoy the festivities and the athletic competitions.
At the 2006 Loch Norman Highland Games Eric Frasure set the Amateur World Record in the 22lb Hammer Throw at 122 feet and 10 inches. He just missed the United States Professional record by 2 inches!

With its roots firmly planted in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania this dedicated group continues to honor the traditions of the Celtic people. While the annual calendar is filled with events in music, history and arts it is the Celtic Classic that stirs the souls of the faithful. Each year the Celtic Classic brings the finest in Celtic arts, food, music, athletics, piping and more to eastern Pennsylvania. The Celtic Classic attracts over 260,000 patrons to this two and a half day presentation of all things Celtic. It is with great pride that Celtic Cultural Alliance presents this event without admission each year. The large Irish, Scottish and Welsh populations, which historically existed in the Lehigh Valley, made this a natural location for the largest Highland Games and festival in North America. The proximity to New York City and Philadelphia make this a great place to spend some time and get in touch with your roots.

A History Just as they were the vanguards of civilization in other regions of America west of the Appalachians, the Scots formed the first large group of settlers in Central Texas. This type was indomitable, hard and sometimes ruthless, but always independent, courageous, and had a passionate love of knowledge and freedom. Major Sterling C. Robertson, 2nd generation removed from his Scottish emigrant ancestor, was surveying in Central Texas during the winter of 1823-24. Most of the 600 families that he introduced into Central Texas were of Scottish origin. His friend and helper in the later part of the colony was Alexander Thomson, another Scot. In fact, many Texas counties bear the name of Scots. In her desire to construct a program under the auspices of the Central Texas Area Museum, Inc., wherein each nationality active in the founding of Central Texas would be honored, Mrs. Sterling C. Robertson, Secretary and Program Chairperson, decided that the Scots, because of the priority of their arrival in the region, should be accorded priority of representation. All Texas became interested in this educational and cultural program.
