Happy new year
I was on call for my job this newyears weekend, so no big party, and good shape to go flying the first day of the new year. I met up with Sindre who had driven 330km to fly, and we went to Sundvollen. It was nice conditions for a sled ride down through light snowfall, and landing on the frozen fjord in quite mild weather for the season - just below freezing. I had one flight, Sindre two. Setup  in light snowfall Sindre setting up the Falcon and his first flight on his new Skyline harness. The LZ, Egil Toft in the background packing up the paraglider. Closeup of one of the nicer ones. There were thousands of these on the fjord. This is with flash. Wish I had a better camera with me as the flash washes out some of the details of the crystal.

BJ Herring Kicks Your Ass at Villa Grove
by BJ Herring September 30th seemed like a gimme day from the time we got up there. Cycles blowing for 5 minutes each, and a light S wind between them for a couple minutes. And it was the clearest Larry (Local Pilot Extraordinaire) had seen it in a long time. But the High Pressure and zero clouds I guess told Jim it might be harder than I thought. And it was. Bong is a 4900 acre Wisconsin State Park that features a 2.6 mile gravel runway . In the 1950's it was slated to be Bong Air Force Base and the runway was laid with many tons of crushed rock before being decommissioned. This is a multi-use park and quite a variety of activities can be going on simultaneously: model rockets and/or model airplanes of many types, dog trials, motocross on a 6 mile track, horseback riding on 12 miles of trails, swimming, boating, camping on over 200 sites, and hang glider towing. Bong Park is the best site for pilots new to Static Towing.

hang gliding in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Tandem flight in Sao Conrado with national champion, master pilot and record holder Konrad heilmann.
http://riohanggliding.com/
Hang gliding in Rio de Janeiro is a very special experience. You will have the unique sensation of flying like a bird, with a light breeze of tropical air in your face and surrounded by the beautiful mountains and beaches of Rio de Janeiro. First a short briefing with the worlds best tandem pilots about the take-off and other aspects of hang gliding. Taking off that is very simple and easy and not terrifying as you might imagine. Soon we will be airborne with out hang glider. Flying means gliding smoothly through the air, after seven steps over the platform you will feel and understand why birds are peaceful animals. The fear of not touching the ground will disappear and will be overcome by tranquility of floating in the air.During flight you will also see the main attractions of Rio de Janeiro ; Sugar loaf , Corcovado , Copacabana , Ipanema , Lagoa and the city of Niteroi on the other side of the Guanabara Bay. After a smooth landing on the sandy beach of Sao Conrado, you will be offered refreshments while you watch others landing. The whole adventure can be photographed by our special camera attached to the glider or video recorded so you can share this great adventure with your friends and relatives back home.

Welcome to the SCFHGC Website
The Suffolk Coastal Floaters Hang Gliding Club was established some 30yrs ago, at the very beginning of Hang Gliding , here in the UK These pages will briefly introduce you to our club and hopefully give you some idea as to who we are, what we do, and where we came from. Also, you can contact us, by email, through these pages, and we have also included brief details of how you can get started in the sport of Hang Gliding . New members are always welcome and we look forward to introducing you to the East Anglian flying fraternity. During the summer months we usually operate from our winch tow site at Mendlesham , just off the A140, north of Ipswich. Winching up to 1000 feet allows us to start climbing up to the clouds and fly across the East Anglian landscape. Coastal flying is also still very much the heart of the club and we have several superb and uncrowded sites in both Norfolk and Suffolk At the end of a hot dry summer's day ( or cold wet and windy winter's day!

Welcome to Dynamic Flight, Australia's Leading Hang Gliding School
Dynamic Flight Hang Gliding School has been operating full time since 1991 in the Victorian Pyrenees winery region. We have had Hang Gliding Federation of Australia accreditation since our inception. Our location, beside the Western Highway at Trawalla enjoys a lower rainfall than many parts of Victoria including the coastal areas. We are only a short drive from some of Victoria's best wineries and major tourist attractions such as Sovereign Hill and the Eureka Stockade.
Dynamic Flights' location provides access to a large variety of launch sites second to none, which cater for every wind direction and pilot skill level. We have access to a 1,500 acre Flight Park, the largest in the world, with four tow strips in eight directions, allowing hang gliders to be towed to altitudes of over one thousand feet regardless of wind direction. grab an information package on-line We can introduce you to some of the many pilots who fly in this area on a regular basis. Many of these pilots are our past students, they would be glad to show you the local popular flying sites.

Hanggliding and Paragliding
Click on the images to enlarge Hanggliding and paragliding have become increasingly popular over the last ten years and on summer weekends the sky around Mam Tor seems full of hanggliders and paragliders, buzzing around like large flies.
Hang-glider near Mam Tor The sport needs a breeze and an updraught, so the area around Mam Tor (including the edges above Treak Cliff, Lord's Seat and Rushup Edge) is ideal, for it catches the wind from all directions. If the wind is coming from the south you take off from Rushup Edge, if it's from the north then take off from Lord's Seat, if it's from the east, then from the summit of Mam Tor itself, over Hope Valley. Other popular areas for the sport include Shining Tor in the Goyt Valley, Bradwell Edge in the Hope Valley and some of the Eastern Edges such as Curbar Edge, Eyam Edge, Bradwell Edge and Stanage Edge. Bunster Hill near Ilam is also used by paraglider pilots when there is a southerly wind.
Like most flying the hardest parts are taking off and landing. Once in the air you can glide around for ages on a good day, and if you catch a thermal it's possible to travel quite a long way - it's not uncommon for an experienced hangglider or paraglider pilot to get from Mam Tor as far as Ashbourne and trips are occasionally made to the east coast.
