It is a misconception, usually arrived at after studying the game intently, that Gaelic football has no rules. In fact, it has two sets; the original rules set down by the GAA in 1887, and the current rules. Confusion stems from the fact that the new rules are the same set of rules for both Gaelic football and hurling . The former is as described below, but the latter is similar to Gaelic football but it is played with a hurl and a sliotar The Original Rules
  • There shall not be less than 15 or more than 21 players a-side. There shall be two umpires and a referee. Where the umpires disagree, the referee's decision shall be final.

Abroad : Where masterpieces were created
Pamela appreciated the gamut of music in pubs, including rock from a live band at a pub in Galway. Below, right, she also visited a pub in Belmullet decked out for the big Gaelic football game. (Photos by Pamela Reynolds) Below, left, the class experienced cultural immersion in Belmullet by learning how to dance an Irish reel. (Courtesy photo)
At the end: Gaelic football, rock and reel amaze me
        By Pamela Reynolds
It seems like everyone in the entire town of Belmullet is in this pub. Wearing the green and red Mayo jerseys, residents staunchly display support for their home team, which has unexpectedly made it to the semifinals. Even young kids hover at the entrance of the pub, clutching little red and green flags that make it feel a little bit like Christmas. Fortunately for Mayo supporters, Christmas comes a little early and the Mayo team wins over Fermanagh by two points. Mayo will now play in the final championship game later this month. Gaelic football is my new favorite sport. Combining elements from American football, European football (i.e. soccer), and even basketball, this brutal and high-speed sport keeps you at the edge of your seat!

Welcome to the Guernsey Gaels GAA website
What started off as a one-off training session in June 1996 has mushroomed into a committed GAA scene in Guernsey. Limited in numbers, but great heart!
Our tournament was first established on St Patricks weekend 1998 with 4 teams participating. The tournament has grown over the years accomodating mens, ladies and under-age football on the Saturday and hurling on the Sunday each year.
This tournament is unique, we have adapted rules, which make this a fast and demanding game, with a maximum of 3 touches, so no one individual can dominate and it simply becomes a team game. The playing ground is always in first class condition and we thank the Rovers AFC for offering their facilities to us.
Our 2008 tournament will be on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th May 2008.

Shenzhen¡¯s mens B team, who¡¯s consistency knows no bounds, again delivered results game in game out ¨C you could set your watch by these guys! Both ladies and men¡¯s teams battled their way through the stifling Saturday heat like Trojan warriors on a god sent mission. Sunday came and went and our somewhat unfounded ideals of glory dissolved into a bottle of Bacardi 501. Throughout the week-end Shenzhen had one endless source of inspiration, she shed blood (not all hers, they wont get in her way next year!) and tears, broke down barriers of pain and exhaustion to ensure Shenzhen¡¯s success and demolition of all opposition.
