Welcome to Ken's Webpage Visitor No.
My name is Ken Knowles, I have always had ferrets and dogs, when working on a farm or just walking in the fields I have always had a dog and some ferrets and a few nets with me. I have bread all sorts of ferrets, some very good ones and some not so good and some that will always be wild. I also breed African Hedgehogs and fly Radio Control Model Aircraft. Me when I was young Me now Me flying Ferreting is an art, not just a matter of laying a net over a rabbit hole, throwing a ferret down and hoping to get a rabbit out. Your nets have to be laid out so they don't get stuck on twigs and brambles and will not close when a rabbit runs into it. Your ferret need to be fit and not just taken from it's cage after an easy summer and expected to run down holes yards and yards long chasing and killing rabbits without laying up. Your ferrets must be housed in solid cages with room to climb and move around, your nets should be hung out to get the smell of summer, make different nets for different jobs, short ones for when the undergrowth is thick, long ones for two holes that are togeather and so on.

A domestic ferret Conservation status Domesticated Scientific classification Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Carnivora
Family: Mustelidae
Genus: Mustela
Species: M. putorius
Subspecies: M. p. furo
Trinomial name
Mustela putorius furo
Linnaeus
In general use, a ferret is a domestic ferret Mustela putorius furo and have an ordinary lifespan of 7 to 10 years. Several other small, elongated carnivorous mammals belonging to the family Mustelidae weasels ) also have the word "ferret" in their common names, including an endangered species , the Black-footed Ferret . The ferret is a very close relative of the polecat , but it is as yet unclear whether it is a domesticated form of the European Polecat , the Steppe Polecat , or some hybrid of the two. The history of the ferret's domestication is uncertain, like that of most other domestic animals. It is very likely that ferrets have been domesticated for at least 2,500 years, but it is not certain for what purpose the ferret was originally domesticated. It is known though that the Romans used ferrets for hunting rabbits. They are still used for that purpose in some parts of the world today, but increasingly they are being kept simply as pets. Being so closely related to polecats, ferrets are quite easily able to hybridize with them, and this has occasionally resulted in feral colonies of ferret polecat hybrids that have been perceived to have caused damage to native fauna, perhaps most notably in New Zealand. As a result, some parts of the world have imposed restrictions on the keeping of ferrets.

Forum Ferreting: Wear a Suit Get an Upgrade?
9/20/2007 at 10:45 AM
Tags: Upgrades Forum Ferreting all tags
A wedding dress and a bouquet may boost a coach couple to the lap of luxury (the same way a short skirt can get a girl nearly kicked off a plane), but the folks at Flyertalk wondered, what about the solo flyer? Can a fancy suit, a nice tie and some slicked-back hair send a non-elite traveler to the front of first class? According to one flight attendant, yes: I assure you that passengers wearing jackets and/or ties stand significantly higher chances of snagging the upgrade than someone in a T-shirt, shorts and baseball cap. It also helps if you can make the check-in agent smile. Nobody wants to upgrade the sloppy grouch who argues. Sure, that's nice, but like one biz-class traveler says: When I'm sitting up front, it's amazing how many guys wearing suits do the walk of shame thru F or J to the back of the bus. Doesn't always seem to work for them. Related Stories:

Reader comment on article: But he was good to his mother: Murdering for militant Islam
Submitted by Fred Miller (United States) , Dec 3, 2003 at I wonder if these suicide bombers are abberations from the average Muslim. It would seem that there is something about the strength of their beliefs in a rewarding afterlife that makes a very large number of Muslims willing to undertake self annihilation for the "cause". And as a result perhaps they are not being trained for these tasks over a lengthy period of time but just volunteer as something they have been willing to undertake subconciously for years.
When Salman Rushdie was being hunted because of the fatwa issued by some mullah somewhere I inquired on several Muslim sites for an explanation of who can issue a fatwa and how people can reconcile a call for all to kill someone with no further legal procedures and no recriminations against the killer. Never got an answer. It seems we are dealing with an extraordinary facet of a culture so different from ours as to seem unfathomable. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Comments are screened for relevance, substance, and tone, and in some cases edited, before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome, but not hostile, libelous, or otherwise objectionable statements. Original writing only, please.

FERRETING OUT WORKERS' COMP FRAUD
Do you suspect that one of your employees is milking a supposedly work-related injury for all it's worth? There are many ways to identify possible workers' compensation fraud, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, which is prosecuting employees for this transgression in record numbers this year. The NICB, funded by insurers, works with police departments to investigate property-casualty insurance fraud. Consider it a red flag if the injured worker: Reports that the accident occurred in the early morning, especially on a Monday. It may be a sports-related or weekend injury claimed as having happened at work. Says the injury occurred in an area where he or she wouldn't normally be (especially if it's a high-risk area), or if no one witnessed the accident. Is facing financial pressures or anticipates disruption in pay due to an impending strike or looming layoffs. Has a history of short-term employment or lied on the original job application. Changes doctors several times while undergoing treatment for the injury.
