Castle Falconry Dunrobin, Golspie, Sutherland KW10 6SF, Scotland Tel: +44 (0)1408 633699 E-mail: falconry@highlandescape.com Castle Falconry, providing a unique falconry experience in the Highlands. Falconry traces its origins back several thousand years and has been the passion of some of the most influential people in history. Aristocratic and romantic, this ancient sport has retained its mystique right up to the present day and few images are as powerful as a trained hawk sitting sharp eyed on a gloved fist. To watch a falconer's hawk in action can be thrilling, but to get out into the countryside and fly such a bird yourself is an experience without equal; the feel of the hawk riding your hand and the excitement as it launches into flight makes for a spellbinding encounter. At Castle Falconry we are confident of being able to make your first taste of falconry unforgettable. Leading the team is internationally acclaimed falconer and dog trainer Andy Hughes who has personally trained over 70 various birds of prey during the last 28 years, including Eagles, Falcons, Hawks and Owls. Under his guidance you are guaranteed to get the very most of your outing. Groups are kept small and this ensures plenty of involvement, at the same time promoting a friendly, informal atmosphere. A period of instruction will help you feel comfortable around hawks and teach you some basic handling skills. Then it's off into the surrounding countryside to put theory into practice.

Division of Migratory Bird Management
FALCONRY QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS What is falconry? Falconry is caring for and training raptors for pursuit of game, and the sport of hunting with raptors. Do I need a permit to practice falconry? Yes. You must have a valid falconry permit from the state in which you reside, and a valid Federal falconry permit, to take, possess, or transport raptors for falconry, or to hunt with them. With your falconry permits you also may practice falconry in other states in which it is legal. Some state, tribal, or local governments may require you to have additional permits or licenses to practice falconry or to take a bird from the wild. You also may need a hunting license or permit to hunt with a falconry bird. What is joint Federal/state falconry permitting? To simplify falconry permitting for the public, some states participate in a joint falconry permitting program. States that meet the federal falconry standards can opt to handle falconry permitting with a single permit application. In those states, once the state processes your application and we have confirmed that you are qualified, we will co-sign your permit. If your state does not participate in joint federal/state falconry certification, you must apply for your state and federal falconry permits separately. Can I practice falconry where I reside?

Just across the Northamptonshire fields from Althorp lies Holdenby House, a stately home whose royal connections go back over 400 years. Built by Sir Christopher Hatton to entertain Elizabeth I, it became the Palace of James I and the prison of his son, Charles I. Now a family home, the house is the splendid backdrop to a beautiful garden and Falconry Centre, where visitors can watch birds of prey soar over the scene of so much history. Six miles from Northampton, Holdenby is a magnificent venue for corporate events and conferences, film and TV shoots and weddings. We also run an award-winning schools programme with projects on the Tudors, the Victorians and World War II.

71. The Ancient Art
Master of the Mews historical falconry displays with medieval falconer, Matrix Radio Telemetry falcon tracking systems, bird of prey adoption scheme.
http://www.matrix2000.co.uk/falconry.htm
The ancient art of Falconry is commonly defined as the hunting of wild quarry using trained birds of prey. Strictly speaking Falconry involves only the long-winged hawks, the Falcon family, and only a person who flies a falcon at wild quarry is entitled to call themselves a Falconer, where as the term Hawking should be used for anyone using a Broad or Short winged Hawk, namely the true Hawks, Buzzards and Eagles for the same purpose, and this person would be termed an Austringer. The term Hawk is broadly used to describe any trained bird of prey. The use of birds of prey by humans as a form of hunting appears to have originated in China around 680BC, although an Arabic account describes that the first Falconer was a Persian King, who watched a Falcon kill another bird, and ordered his men to capture the Falcon. The legend continues that the King kept the bird with him at all times, and learnt many lessons from it. The first evidence of Falconry in Europe comes from the sixth century when the Germanic tribes took up the sport, and by 875 AD it was practised widely through western Europe and Britain. The period 500 AD until 1600 AD saw the peak of interest in falconry. It became a highly regulated, revered, and popular art among all the social classes in Europe. In Great Britain, falconry went beyond being a sport of royalty or being practised as a necessity, instead its popularity became what we would now call a craze or fad, and became a status symbol in medieval society.

Mark has added to the character of the club in many ways and I hope I can follow in his footsteps and continue the growth and serve our members. When the centre first opened in the summer of 1994, it consisted of the Tropical house, some gardens and the start of the nature trail. Over the past 11 years the centre has evolved to included a wide range of animals. The centre currently is home to the Tropical House, Bird of prey centre, baby animal nursery, Pets corner and a mature nature trail. In turn these areas house many exotic species of plants and animals from Philippine butterflies, African falcon, South american Marmoset monkeys and Australian Bearded Dragons. Not forgetting the many different native specie that the nature trail provided a sanctuary for. Venture deep into the Tropical Rainforest; watch out for the caiman basking by his pool. Try and spot all the different types of free flying exotic butterflies and birds as they search for food. Look out for the leaf cutter ants as they carry their heavy loads back to their nest. Explore the darkness of the nocturnal room home to sticky footed geckos, luminous tree frogs, giant creepy crawly insects, scuttling cockroaches and slithering snakes. Too hot in the tropical house? The cool off with a gentle stroll around the nature trail home to many rare species of plants, insects and animals. Watch the busy honeybees in their hive or look out for Kestrels, woodpeckers, stoats and squirrels from the bird hide. Peer into the ponds for stickleback fish, newts and toads. Or pop into the Bird of Prey centre and get close up to these spectacular predators, why not stop and talk with the parrots they may talk too.

#Introduction There are still a lot of schools of Japanese falconry(most of them were established during Edo period), and many falconeers have develooped their technique in their owwnnn ways.
The purpose of this association is to organize practicing the art of traditional falconry in Japan, to train its followers (falconers), and to carry out research on raptors. We have received some criticism that our activities do not follow the mainstream of faoconry in its true traditional way.
Nevertheless, we have to face the reality;it is getting more difficult to secure falconry lands because a lot off areas in Japan have already been urbanized.
We hope you understand our present situation.
#Enjoying falconry; Falconry imploys falcons, hawks, or eagles, in hunting game: raptors'
"hunting" instinct is utilized in this hunting.
In Japan, a falconer originally collaborates with persons with hunting dogs and persons with riding horses.
At first;, dogs find and chase prey in the bush.

The practice of falconry in the modern era seems to many an anachronism. However, the care of raptors and interaction with hunting with a skilled predator provides many insights into animal behavior not otherwise available to the biologist. Falconry is regulated under both federal and state laws. All raptors in the USA are protected under various statutes; any "take" of a raptor must be done under the appropriate permit to be legal. This includes the possession of raptor feathers. (Actually, the possession of any feathers from migratory birds is illegal without the right permits, which has cost several artists fines and confiscation of works which incorporated feathers.) If you are interested in falconry, the probable best first contact is the state agency which regulates wildlife or hunting in your own state. Request information on falconry, and you should receive the relevant state and federal statutes and requirements, and some states also distribute lists of currently permitted falconers in the state.
