For spectators, a number of beachside areas in Hong Kong will turn into mini-carnivals, with food, drinks and outside seating set-up to watch the proceedings. Some of the best locations to see the events are Sha Tin in the New Territories, which is a good choice for families, Abeerdeen on the south-side of Hong Kong Island, and Stanley, which remains the party-goers choice, as both expats and alcohol arrive in equal numbers. In recent years, clubs and businesses have started hiring junks in Stanley, which include all you can eat and drink for a set-price. These are an excellent way to see the festival but tend to be private affairs rather than public. One point of contact is

The team participates in both recreational and competitive dragon boat races that are sanctioned by the IDBA (International Dragon Boat Association), and CDBA (California Dragon Boat Association)
The NAC Orange Roughys is a paddling team comprised of cancer survivors who have survived all types of cancer from breast cancer to skin cancer. The Roughys are the only "all" cancer survivor team in California and the first for the US. This team comes together to race and also promote wellness, survivorship, exercise, and the love to enjoy and appreciate life.
Both teams practice and race together in all events. Dragon Boat Festivals/Races consist of several venues ranging from: Coed, Mens, Womens, Junior High, College, Masters and Survivor Races. At this time, the NAC Teams participate in Coed, Womens, Master, we are currently working on a Mens Team and the Orange Roughys separate from the Coed Team and join in the Survivor Races.

    Just Resting
The Shuswap Dragon Boat Society is taking a little rest. We have taken our boat, Friends Abreast, out of the water. She had a good cleaning; some tender loving care and is now enjoying a rest in a barn on a farm. The snow has started to fall and winter is slowly coming upon us. As the months go by spring will soon be here once again and as the days get longer and the weather starts to warm up we will all be looking forward to paddling again. Enjoy the time with family and friends and will see you all again on the lake.
