Unwitting bystanders on Memorial Drive may wonder if they've wandered into a Zhang Yimou dream sequence this weekend, as more than 35 dragon-headed vessels skim the Charles in the city's most exotic series of boat races. This stirring spectacle is the centerpiece of the annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival, which brings to life a legend surrounding the suicide of an ancient patriot-poet named Qu Yuan. ST PHOTO: LIM WUI LIANG View more photos ALL the surviving 17 Singapore national dragon boat rowers have returned home and will be interviewed on how the freak accident which killed five of their teammates happened. They arrived at Changi Airport Terminal 2 at about 1 pm on Monday on Flight MI from Phnom Penh and were kept away from the media pack who were waiting at the arrival hall. They were met on arrival by Mr Teo Ser Luck, Parliamentary Secretary (Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports), and Dr Lam Pin Min, an MP and senior vice-president of the Singapore Dragon Boat Association. Speaking to the media later, both Mr Teo and Dr Lam said they would be giving all the necessary help to the families of the five dead rowers, and will carry out a post-mortem on the accident. The priority now is to help the grieving families with the funeral arrangments and wakes, they said. Asked if a memorial service would be held for the five, they said they were not able to respond to that right now.
