Anatomy of an NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle CHASSIS: The Pro Stock Bike chassis is adjustable for wheelbase, between 68 and 70 inches. The long 4130 chromoly frame has no rear suspension but the front end features a modern "upside-down" telescopic fork with the larger-diameter outer tubes located on top for increased stability. TRANSMISSION: The rider shifts the five-speed transmission with an air shifter, activated by a small handlebar-mounted button. An air ram powers the transmission into the next gear. ON-BOARD COMPUTER: The on-board Race Pack computer monitors critical engine functions such as engine rpm, wheel speed, air/fuel mixture and exhaust-gas temperature. The information is downloaded to a computer inside the race transporter and is reviewed after each run to help mechanics make adjustments to the motorcycle. REAR TIRE: A 10-inch wide Mickey Thompson racing slick puts the power to the ground and is good for eight runs down the drag strip. Wheelie bar: The lengthy aluminum "wheelie bar" stretches 130 inches beyond the rear axle and keeps the powerful bike from flipping over backward.

Karizma / CBZ/ Pulsar - Drag Bike?
This was the bike that ran at the Mumbai Speed Run Kharghar 2006.
Set-up by Team Motokraft, ridden by M Muthukumar. It did posted the following quarter-mile result:
2 Muthu Kumar CBZ RACEBUILT 121.63 0.847 16.066 ( Position Name Vehicle Speed Reaction-time Elapsed-time)
Compare this to the stock CBZ quarter mile times as posted in Overdrive at 21.5 seconds . Ofcourse Overdrive tested this at Pune which is not at sea-level, but the correction is ignored here. The figures are approximate anyways.
Let's check out the visible modifications.
- Complete change of plastic parts and fairing. The fairing's been put on a diet. Not even a second round of sheet to form a closed shape. Just a single sheet bent to shape. Perfect. The tank seems familiar, but does look like it's been modified to include a smaller container. Perfect for the drag, where you dont want the excess fuel to increase the weight.
- We can see the VERY lowered seat, and the footpegs which have been pulled way back! The handlebars are lowered and the tank offers perfect accommodation for the rider to crouch down all the way. Notice that the seat has no padding at all, just one thin piece of cloth serving as the cushion (sic). Couple that with the extreme suspension, and you know why these bikes ain't road-legal.

68. Drag Your Bike - Surviving The Streets - Motorcycle Cruiser
Motorcycle Cruiser magazine on the importance of leaning over far enough to drag your bike and being comfortable enough to use this in case of emergency.

Home Grind Time: Can You Drag It?
Why You Need to Be Able to Drag Your Motorcycle in Corners
On most motorcycles, those grinding noises are nothing to be afraid of, and you can help yourself escape more important threats to your safety if you are comfortable while making them. From the Summer 1996 issue of Motorcycle Cruiser magazine.
If you have nevevr dragged a footpeg or some other part of your motorcycle, you should do it. Cruisers are generally supposed not to lean over very far when cornering. Because of this and the desire to keep centers of gravity and seat heights low, there is a trend to design new cruisers with ever less cornering clearance. The Royal Star is a good example of this. It is easy to drag the replaceable skids on the footboards. This creates something of a contradiction: Because their riders don't lean over very far and are unlikely to drag anything, designers give cruisers less cornering clearance. Because they give them less clearance, they are more likely to drag. It's likely that you have never dragged anything on your motorcycle, but you should be ready to do so if you need to. How could you

The EPC is a time dependant variable pressure control and retails at $2600.00 US, Software and Firmware upgrades included although the unit has to be sent back for any upgrades. The software currently runs on Windows XP, with Vista to be checked in the near future. The unit has a maximum pressure input of 175psi but does not need to be at a regulated supply pressure. You have to have a power switch to turn the unit on - 12-Volts DC with a 6-Amp rating would be sufficient for a standard configuration.
