Camogie is the ladies version of Hurling and the session is open to complete beginners; past and experienced players alike.
Current Club members range in age from 12 years to 40+ with many of the younger crop of players playing camogie as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme. These younger players can play competitive games in our Junior team and subject to numbers, our aim is to start an underage team.
Also welcome on the Junior squad are girls that played underage or junior grade in Ireland. A fair amount of our current members played camogie during primary/secondary school age and then didn't pick up a hurley again until they arrived in London. Training sessions will soon build up the fitness levels and sharpness with the sliotar.

Sport in Ireland - Camogie
Sport in Ireland Hurling Gaelic Football Camogie ... Cricket Camogie is very much the same as the Irish game of Hurling , though it is played only by women and girls and there are some minor variations in the rules. As with Hurling the game is played with a curved wooden stick, cut from a single piece of Ash, with a flat end and known as a hurl or hurley, or in Irish a camán [say:come-awn] , and a leather covered ball, or sliothar [say: shlit-her] about the size of a tennis ball. The Camogie sliothar is slightly lighter and smaller than the hurling one. Players in Camogie matches wear skirts or divided skirts, shorts are not allowed.
How Camogie is Played
Games are played by two opposing teams of 15 players with the object being to get the ball through the opponent's goalpost. The goalpost is H shaped, with a net below the cross post. If the ball goes between the uprights and over the cross post, a point is scored, if it goes under the post and into the net a goal, worth three points, is scored. Players are allowed to strike the ball in the air, even above head height, as well as on the ground. When the ball is on the ground it cannot be handled but it can be lifted from the ground using the hurley, to be either caught in the hand or struck.

Welcome back! 2007 is set to be one of the most important years for Camogie in Europe! Our mission: to field a full Camogie Team of fifteen players and to take part in as many games as we can fit in and of course, to have fun doing it!
On 10 June 2006, we got our first outing in Brussels during a demonstration match at the Brussels leg of the European Hurling Tournament. On 2 July 2006, we had our first ever Camogie match , against Whitehall GAA in Poppintree, Ballymun and were victorious. We fell to the more experienced Setanta side in their second match that day but came away with our heads held high and a great deal of optimism for the future. On 21 October 2006, we had another chance to field a team

Ballyhea 2-10 Grenagh 1-4 @ Buttevant.

Ballyhea camogie produced a tremendous performance to defeat red hot favourites Grenagh last Saturday. Ballyhea were totally on top in the first half and went in deserving 0-8 to 0-1 leaders at half time. Ballyhea struck for the crucial 1st goal in the 38th minute when Mary Coleman billowed the net.Wwe would have been furter ahead but for 2 excellent saves by the grenagh keeper to deny Rachel Waters and Orla Carroll. Grenagh pulled a goal back from a 21 yard free in the 60th min, but a Sarah Douglas free deceived the Grenagh defence in the 66th minute to seal a famous victory. After the game Michelle Walsh, Ballyhea's Captain was presented the cup. County camogie Board Chairperson Sheila Golden presented the Person Of The Match award to the outstanding Maria Walsh. Great credit for this victory must go to the players and especially coaches Maurice O' Sullivan and Hugh O' Leary who kept the team going when it looked like we would have no team.
Scorers - Sarah Douglas 1-3, Mary Coleman 1-0, Maria Walsh 0-4, Orla Carroll 0-1, Kate Keane 0-1, Rachel waters 0-1.

The History of St Finbarr’s Camogie Club can be traced to pre-Cumann Camogaiochta na hEireann times. Records exist of a group of girls playing in the Lough area of the city in the later years of the 1800’s. Since then a team representing St Finbarr’s has fielded in every decade.
St Finbarrs had begun playing in 1957 and in 1964 a ‘Barrs team won the Junior Championship defeating St Aloysians 3-2 to 2-1. However shortly after this the club disbanded only to be reformed in January 1972. The club registered five over 18 players and eighteen under 18 players in its first year. The club entered a team in the under 18 and Junior competitions. The Junior team reached the final that year only to lose out to a more experienced Glanworth side.
The club had to wait until 1981 to achieve its first championship title. This side was captained by Maire O’ Sullivan and Beat Blackrock by 2-4 to 2-2 in the final. This team completed the double that year by also winning the league title.
The club did not have to wait too much longer for another championship title as they were successful in their first year in the Intermediate level. This win promoted the club to senior ranks which was a long cherished ambition.
