Its most recent successes were in February 2001 when the Under-10's won the County Indoor Camogie League, and in 1999 when the club scooped both the Intermediate League and Championship titles. Camogie in Cornafean - The early days The sport was first played in the area since the 1930's, when teams were organised in both Cornafean itself and in Kilmore, but most local successes in organised competition have been recorded since the Cornafean club was re-established in the late 1960's. The 1970's In 1972, the local club achieved its first major success in winning the Cavan Junior Championship, when they defeated Kingscourt in the final. Among Cornafean's key players were Kathleen Barry, Eileen Halton, Pauline Maguire, Maura and Rita Brady, and Mary Martin, who, at 12 years old, was making a notable debut in adult competition. The team was trained by Jim Hannon and Tommy Brady. Three years later, Cornafean won their first Intermediate League title, when they defeated Craobh Rua in the 1975 final. Goals from Geraldine Donohoe, Monica McCabe and Philomena were the key to this victory, with the final scoreline reading Cornafean 3-4 Craobh Rua 2-3.

Sunday, June 6, 2004; Page M07 Are you funneling your unspent aggression in unproductive ways . . . say, snapping at your boss or fighting with your boyfriend? Rather than going into therapy – or losing your man – get the lead out with camogie, a women's team sport from Ireland that comes off like a freewheeling combination of baseball, lacrosse and field hockey. With rules similar to hurling – the men's version of the game – the goal is simple: Using a hurley (a flat stick made of ash wood), score points by moving the tennis-ball-size "sliothar" down the field and past the goalie through the H-shaped goal post. (Get it through the net below and score 3 points; above the vertical bar, 1 point.) It's the getting there where it gets funky: You can hit the sliothar with your stick or balance it on your hurley and run with it, but you can't throw it in the air with your hands or carry it in your paws for more than three steps. Players mostly range from age 18 to mid-30s, and each game has two 30-minute halves, with teams of 13 people each facing off. "You'll need stamina, hand-eye coordination and speed," says Niall Dempsey, 40, coach of the D.C. Gaels team. "You've got to be extremely fit to play."

Harps girls win the Junior Club Camogie Title again
November 18th, 2007 Congratulations to the Harps camogie team who won the All Ireland Junior Club Camogie title for the 2nd year in a row beating Keady of Armagh by 2-8 to 2-7. A great game that swung back and forth finally decided by a point from Aine in injury time. Here are lots of photos from the day - Some kindly set on by Annette Ryan (nee Walsh) and some from Marian, thanks to both. I can probably get bigger, better quality copies of most of them if anyone wants them. The full set of photos on flickr Entry Filed under: Harps Photos Sport

TIPPERARY continued their dominance of senior camogie with a comfortable 2-11 to 0-9 win over Cork in the prestigious centenary All-Ireland final at Croke Park. The Rebels did put it to the champions through much of the first half, but center-back Ciara Gaynor and full-forward Deirdre Hughes turned the game at vital moments. In a bright opening quarter Gemma O'Connor, sister of victorious hurling twins Ben and Jerry, was very lively at midfield. Tipp have appeared in every decider since 1999, claiming five of the seven titles on offer. Cork, however, are champions after last year's 1-17 to 1-13 victory and will be keen to retain their crown and land a 22nd title.
