There are three different methods of descending the famous ice-track; the 'bob-raft' takes 5 passengers and travels at speeds of 70-80 kmh. The 'taxi-bob' is the real Olympic bob, with 1 pilot and 3 passengers. Speeds can reach up to 120 kmh, with pressures of 5G round the final bends - there really is nothing like it! Finally there is the 'skeleton' - a one-man luge - you travel face down, nose inches from the ice. Friday (less busy than the weekends) is a full day at the ice track with a special programme of events including the bobsled. Said topped the time charts for the two qualifying runs, which set the lineup for Saturday's championship runs. The field of NASCAR and NHRA drivers practiced Friday morning and then took a pair of qualifying runs Friday afternoon with the combined times of those two runs being used to rank the drives. Said was ninth-fastest in his own sled during the first qualifying run. He then borrowed the sled of NHRA driver Morgan Lucas and posted the fastest time of the day at 53.23 seconds - beating Lucas' second-fastest time of 53.96. Said's time converts to 94.48 km/h. "My own sled was a little off," said Said, who has won three of the four championship races in the first two seasons. "I just wanted to make sure I can still run - and beat Morgan in his own sled."

The front sled turns on a ball and socket joint, permitting it to follow uneven contours without strain on the chassis. This joint consists of a king pin with an integral ball and collar, and a steel socket split and assembled with bolts. The ball and socket join taken from the radius rods of a model-T Ford can be adapted to this purpose. The sled runners are 14 inches apart and the rear sled is connected to the chassis with a long bolt through the eye bolts in the upper and lower cross members.
