The rules of blind cricket are based on the standard Laws of cricket with some essential modifications. In terms of playing equipment, the major adaptation is the ball, which is significantly larger than a standard cricket ball and filled with ball bearings. The size allows partially sighted players to see the ball and the contents allow blind players to hear it. The wicket (stumps) is also larger, to allow partially sighted players to see and blind players to touch it in order to correctly orient themselves when batting or bowling. Various other modifications to the rules apply. Verbal signals are widely used both by umpires and players: in particular, the bowler must shout 'Play!' as he releases the ball. The delivery is required to pitch at least twice when bowled to a completely blind batsman (once when bowled to a partially sighted batsman), but must not be rolling. Totally blind batsmen cannot be

Introduction If you are interested in the rules of Blind Cricket then it is best to look at the website www.blindcricket.org.uk where a full and in depth insight can be gained. What it is important to say here is that the game boasts an extremely lively circuit with vibrant clubs who can offer cricket to a range of differently interested parties. We have a two division structure so that those keen to play competitively can, and those keen to play recreationally can too, but within a structured league programme. The game boasts a friendly and sociable atmosphere with each club offering something unique to the game. Most people would cite the camaraderie, the social atmosphere and the opportunity to share experiences with other visually impaired people as major reasons for playing the game. There are 3 easy ways of finding out more:
  • Visit the British Blind cricket website http://www.blindcricket.org.uk Visit the website of the club you are interested in. Haynes will face the England blind cricket team
Blind cricket is heading for the Caribbean with the West Indies about to set up their first team. The England blind cricket team and former stars Desmond Haynes and Devon Malcolm will help the move which will increase the sport's growing international network. Also assisting is the London Community Cricket Association, which set up and coached the England team. England blind cricket team coach Andy Sellins said: "West Indies is one of only two Test playing nations not to have a blind team. The blind players impress Malcolm "But the island is mad keen on cricket and I know the idea of the game being played by blind and visually impaired players really grips people's imaginations." England star Tim Gutteridge agreed: "Such is the enthusiasm out there I'm sure they'll be beating us in a few years. "But it goes beyond sport as it will help those with a disability and those without the opportunities to develop and maximise their talents." There are few better equipped to help achieve that goal - Gutteridge was voted Player of the Tournament in last year's Blind Cricket World Cup in India.

    The Game
The game of blind cricket is a version of the game which has been adapted
so that it can be played by blind and partially sighted players. The pitch
is made of concrete and measures the same length and width as used in
sighted cricket. The boundaries are measured 40 metres in a circle around
the pitch and indicated by a white line with flags set at intervals. The ball used is made of nylon tubing woven around a wire frame and is coloured black. Inside the ball are bottle tops and lead weight to give the
ball an audible sound when bowled or thrown. All bowling and fielding is underarm. The bat is the same as used in sighted cricket. The stumps are
made of metal and welded together and coloured either orange or yellow.
    Modified Rules
The team of 11 comprises partially sighted players and totally blind players. The partially sighted players are further divided into Partially A and Partially B
categories. Partially B players are those who, in the previous season,
averaged less than eight runs whilst batting. The game of blind cricket is

While England's sighted players were doing their best to throw away the Ashes, the country's blind and partially-sighted First XI, supported by Sightsavers, beat Australia in the first match of the Blind Cricket World Cup in Pakistan. In blind cricket the ball is filled with beads to allow players to hear it and the stumps are brightly coloured. Most of the rules are the same as standard cricket.

    http://www.blindsport.org.nz/cricket.html
cricket BLIND CRICKET Blind cricket is very similar to cricket played by the sighted. The main difference being that the ball is bowled under arm and makes an audible noise that can be heard by the players. Traditionally this game is played between two teams of eleven players made up of players with sight varying from totally blind to those with partial sight and is generally played on a one day basis with 40 overs per side and everyone is encouraged to participate either with bat or ball. That is traditionally though, and the above is used at an international level. In recent times we have moved into the shorter Twenty/20 version of the game which can be over in 2 or 3 hours maximum. Still played similar to the traditional version of blind cricket, the only differences being the game is only 20 overs a side, boundaries are shorter and you can play with as little as 7 players a side. National Tournaments aren't so common anymore. We hold a Twenty/20 tournament over Easter weekend and are working towards developing a summer series of either Twenty/20 or the traditional game. The World Blind Cricket Council adminsters the game on an international basis and due to the NZBCA's affiliation with this governing body are able to participate in international competitions such as the Blind Cricket World Cups and test matches against other countries.
