Austin is designated a
Bicycle Friendly Community
In May 2007, the League of American Bicyclist (founded in 1880) designated the City of Austin as a Silver Level Bicycle Friendly Community. The Bicycle Friendly Community program helps communities across the country learn how to become bicycle friendly and offers examples from communities large and small across the country who have successfully built bicycling into their city plans. The city of Austin was evaluated on engineering, education, enforcement and encouragement of bicycling. For more information about this designation and The League of American Bicyclist - click on The League of American Bicyclist May is National Bike Month and at the May 17th, 2007 City Council meeting Mayor Will Wynn issued a proclamation recognizing the City's bicycling community and it's Bicycle and Pedestrian Program, all of whom helped achieve the Bicycle Friendly City status.
