WHAT IS AN AUTOCROSS?
Autocross is a timed event that pits a driver's skill and a car's handling ability against the clock. A course is laid out using pylons (traffic cones) and the goal is to travel from the starting line to the finish in the lowest amount of time. A time penalty is incurred when cones are hit, so precision and control are very important. "Autocross" and "Solo" are used interchangeably - "Solo" is the SCCA 's specific brand of autocross.

Midwestern Council is a notfor-profit individual membership association, serving the interests and needs of its members as racing enthusiasts,
http://autocross.mcscc.org/
Speed - there's no feeling like it
You're in second gear and approaching red-line. Quick shift to third and start building RPM's again. Somewhere around here the big hand of the law firmly says "that's fast enough". Except you're not on a public road now. You're on a twisty, 2 mile long race track with your street car and the RPM's are still building. And now you're shifting to fourth... Competition - this isn't just another track day
The only thing better than speed, is competition. Knowing at the end of the day, you did more than just drive around a race course: you learned, you gained, you had fun, and you competed. Our competition rules keep you racing against cars of similar potential so race results come down to who is the better driver. Minimal Commitment
Our High Speed Autocross program is specifically for drivers who want to compete in their street car without a huge investment in additional equipment and without the threat of rubbing fenders with other drivers. Regardless of what car you have, we have a class you can compete in. We can even give you your lap times without requiring you to purchase additional equipment. Get Started Now - no experience required
Putting your car on a race track can be one of the most exciting experiences you ever have. Our all volunteer organization has been dedicated to providing a safe and competitive environment for almost 50 years. Most new drivers only need their car and an approved helmet to compete with their street car on track. And if you would like help or some instruction, our certified autocross instructors are always available to make sure you learn the basics. Our experience and program format make us one of the safest choices when it comes to putting your car on a race track.

67. Welcome To The MKII MR2 Autocross FAQ
The FAQ covers the basic setup, exploring the most popular ways to maximize the performance of the MR2 in the stock classes.

MKII MR2 Stock Autocross FAQ : This information is presented as is with no claim of accuracy. However, every precaution has been taken to ensure accuracy. Because there are so many different ways to setup the MR2 for autocross, this FAQ is intended to be a general guide only to setting up the MKII MR2 for stock autocrossing. Your setup may differ based on expected course speeds, surface type, weather, and driver preference. Differences in 91-92/93-95 cars and turbo/NA cars will be noted Special thanks to Randy Chase who was a primary contributor. Brad Burns, David Hillman, and Bill Stockton also made significant contributions.. If you have anything to add or correct, please contact me at nathan@mitsi.com Suspension
  • Alignment Crash Bolts are used to help get lots of negative camber in the front. Four crash bolts are used for the front, two per side. Crash bolts are SCCA Stock class legal on the FRONT of the car ONLY, per Toyota Technical Document Volume 10, number 007. Vehicle alignment procedure. Toyota sells three sizes, but for autocross, the smallest one should be used to obtain maximum negative camber. ( Installation Picture When you install crash bolts make sure they are very tight. MR2's are notorious for loosing their negative camber if these are not tight enough. You should tighten the crash bolts to 180-200 ft/lbs to keep them from slipping. Part number for the nut that goes on the crash bolts is 90179-15001. It is recommended that you replace those when you replace the bolts

The 2007 NCAC is complete! Thanks to Highlands Sports Car Club for putting on the event! A message from the HSCC President: I want to extend a HUGE thanks to the sponsors, and all the workers that helped to put the event together. So many people did so much to help the event go off I just wanted to try to list a few of them that I saw. Jeff Soesbee - Helped with setup, registration, picking up the trophies, and misc helping with getting things ready to go during the event. Fran Fruci - Helped with setup, went out picking things up for us around town Saturday morning, and helped all day Saturday. Unfortunately his weekend was cut short by mechanical issues. Greg Starks - Helped with setup, registration, worker steward fill-in, teardown, and everything else that we were shorthanded with. Lisa Davis - Did registration, helped with worker steward, and worked back to back on-course worker station assignments and also teardown after the event.

Articles/Links Autocross Equipment Guide
Autocross is one of the most affordeable forms of motorsports. Basically all you need is your car and a helmet...however there are several other products we recommend to enhance your experience.
Helmet

A helmet is your most important piece of safety equipment. All autocrossers will need a Snell M2005 or SA2005 rated helmet. Most event organizers will provide a few loaner helmets for first-timers, but we recommend getting a helmet of your own once you decide to continue with the sport. Some of our favorite helmets are the Pyrotect Full Face RCi Full Face HJC AR-10 Bell M2 , and G Force Hybrid . For more details on helmets, checkout our helmet guide , or to view all of our helmets, go here
Autocross Shoes

In an autocross shoe, you want something that offers good feel on the pedals, but at the same time is comfortable to walk around during the event and work the course. Our favorite shoes for autocross are the Piloti Prototipo and Piloti Mulholland II . Both of these shoes are very comfortable and offer great pedal feel.
Car Number/Class Magnets

Every car that participates in an autocross will need to have numbers and class markings displayed prominently somewhere on the vehicle. We recommend our

Rather than racing wheel-to-wheel, as in road racing, drag racing, or oval racing, an autocross is a timed handling competition similar to rally racing, although on smaller facilities. National organizations such as the SCCA and National Autosports Association sponsor autocross events throughout the United States, and many areas have independent autocross clubs.

President, American Auto-X Series LLC The American Auto-X Series is an autocross organization, organizing a 16 event series per year. The series caters to the "American Iron", so therefore the courses are designed somewhat wider than most autocrosses across the nation. The series founder, Larry Park, loved Corvettes, and really enjoyed making them go faster and faster, and since Corvettes need more room to get that horsepower to the pavement, we will continue in that tradition as long as time will allow. General things to know about AAS:
    • There are no membership dues for AAS events, cost is $40.00 per event. We start at 9:00am and try to give everyone 5 runs as long as time permits, and you must work one rungroup per entry. Registration generally opens at 8:00am and is open all day Saturday and till 2:00pm on Sundays. Helmets are required, Snell M or SA 95 or newer. There are some loaners available.
