Goals of the Network:
The Network wishes to ...
  • Create contact between women who are envolved with archaeology and its related fields. Prevent the isolation of female archaeologists. Encourage the exchange of experiences between women. Improve the employment situation of female archaeologists. Promote the discussion between archaeologists and other academics involved in Women's and Gender studies. Establish an interdisciplinary approach between female archaeologists, scientists of other fields and interested amateurs. Expand the theoretical foundations for Feminist Archaeology. Open Feminist Archaeology to the public and to all women. Establish Feminist Archaeology and Gender studies as themes and methods in archaeology.

History of the Network: How it began ...
In Germany archaeology Women's and Gender Studies are completely neglected. Hardly any scholarly work is being produced, in which the gender roles in the past and present are articulated, or gender related approaches scientifically attempted. Women who study these topics often feel isolated and not taken seriously.

105. Religious Studies Major - Hollins University
women's liberal arts college in Virginia. Undergraduate religious studies program.
http://www.hollins.edu/undergrad/religion/religion.htm
Undergraduate Programs
Religious Studies
The religious studies major allows students to engage religious issues with other disciplines (art, classics, English, history, pastoral studies, philosophy, sociology, and women's studies). The shape of the major offers critical understandings of religion as community and individual enterprise, especially as religion relates to other human endeavors in the allied fields. Its focus is in the world's major religions, their rituals, beliefs, texts, and ethical systems, as well as the various cultural contexts that shape, and are in turn shaped by, religious communities and beliefs. The major's capstone involves an interdisciplinary seminar with other majors, applying religious studies methodologies to our most basic understanding of cultures, commitments, and behaviors.
The religious studies major, with concentration in either art, classics, English, history, pastoral studies, philosophy, sociology, or women's studies provides excellent training in cultural literacy. It offers broad background for graduate school in religious studies, ministerial studies, international studies, or programs in the allied fields. Its broadest appeal will be to those who wish to engage and integrate several different fields of study, and to understand religious community and spirituality in their incarnations across many disciplines and cultures.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Students often spend the January Short Term in internships that expand on what they learn in the classroom. Religion major Ane Johnson '98 credits Chaplain Jan Fuller Carruthers with setting up her junior year internship with Amnesty International in Washington, D.C. "I learned about teamwork and working in an office while working closely with people who suffered abuses administered by their own countries," Ane says. "The internship not only helped me make some great contacts, it also gave me a sociological, personal, and historical perspective on which I could base my studies of religion."
