Is the Time Ripe? Thoughts on Strengthening Madison's Food System , a report prepared by the students of URPL 590: Planning for Community Food Systems, under the direction of Assistant Professor Marcia Caton Campbell, and with the assistance of Martin Bailkey, a recent URPL Ph.D., is now available on line.
Is the Time Ripe? is a collaborative effort that began as a class project at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Department of Urban and Regional Planning in Fall 2003. The class was focused on understanding multiple aspects of food production, processing, distribution, consumption, and waste from a systems perspective, and was particularly interested in what planners could do to facilitate a healthy food system on the local level.
As a final project, students researched and wrote this report. Before the paper was finalized the ideas contained within it were presented for feedback to a group of Madison-area professionals involved in the food system. After completion of the semester, several students, listed as editors, finished the report incorporating ideas gathered at the presentation. The report evaluates the state of the food system in Madison, Wisconsin, and recommends areas for further action by the City of Madison.

Architecture Historic Preservation Housing Studies Transportation Planning and Management Urban Design About the field of Urban Planning: In today's fast-paced world, more of a need than ever exists for careful planning. A degree in urban and regional planning can prepare you to meet the challenges of helping change to be positive rather than negative. This degree can span or focus on a range of areas including environmental concern and planning, city revitalization, empowerment of rural/impoverished areas, technological solutions, and many others. A degree can prepare you to work not only locally but nationally and internationally, and give you the tools to effect change. A closely related field is Urban Design , which tends to focus on the more architectural aspects of the overall planning effort, so a knowledge of Architecture is helpful in this field. Urban and regional planning might also link closely to degrees in

Schwerpunkte in der Forschung ... Kongresse/ Tagungen/ Veranstaltungen Die Entwicklung der Architekturausbildung ist eng verbunden mit der wechselvollen Geschichte der Weimarer Kunst- und Architekturschulen. The development of architectural training closely correlates with the changing history of the art and architectural schools in Weimar. As early as 1921, regular architectural training was offered in Weimar at the then College of Trade and Building Art - the successor of the Bauhaus. Today, around 1500 students study within the Faculty of Architecture/Urban and Regional Planning on the courses Architecture, Architecture - Urban and Regional Planning, and in the master programme and doctorate studies in European Urban Studies. The training is directed toward the cultivationof professional work skills. The scientific/artistic education at the University is oriented toward problematic fields, which are handled together with other disciplines. Possible areas are, for example: ecology, building economy, building technology, building design and research topics. home up service
