MISSION The Air Force Studies Board (AFSB) of the National Academies serves as a convening authority for the discussion of science and technology issues of importance to the Air Force and assists in the development of studies conducted by independent ad hoc committees of the National Academies. The AFSB works with the Air Force to define study statements of task, helps to identify committee members that possess necessary expertise, and reviews study prospectuses as part of the study approval process. In coordination with the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force (Acquisition) and by mutual agreement, the AFSB will:
  • Assist in the development and initiation of studies requested by the Air Force and conducted by independent committees of the National Academies established in accordance with established NRC procedures. Serve as a convening authority for discussion of major Air Force science and technology themes, strategies, and plans. In this capacity, no written records are maintained and a strict policy of non-attribution is observed to encourage the free exchange of opinions by members or individuals and guests on Air Force-related science and technology activities and issues. No NRC position is established.

The
Institute for Nonlinear Dynamics in Medicine (ReyLab), is an interdisciplinary research laboratory at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center . The laboratory is affiliated with Harvard Medical School , and the This institute is named in honor of the late Margret and Hans A. Rey , co-creators of the remarkable Curious George books. Margret, like her world-famous literary creation, infused immeasurable joy into the lives of all those who had the privilege of sharing her company. Her extraordinary generosity has enabled us to pursue our mission as a laboratory without walls , in the spirit of that playful primate who serves as a most fitting emblem of scientific curiosity and exploration.
