Iraq suicide bomber massacres Shia worshippers (Associated Foreign Press)
TUZ KHURMATU, Iraq - A suicide car bomber killed 11 Shia worshippers and wounded 24 as they left a central Iraqi mosque on Friday, the latest attack in a three-day surge of violence targetting the majority community. The bloodshed followed a call on Wednesday by Al Qaeda's frontman in Iraq, Abu Musab Al Zarqawi, for "total war" against Shias, a threat which religious leaders from both communities warned could spark a sectarian war. 16 September 2005

31 killed in Iraq blasts (Associated Press)
BAGHDAD: Two suicide car bombers struck within a minute of each other and just a km apart in south Baghdad shortly before noon Thursday, killing at least seven policemen and raising the day's bombing death toll in the capital to at least 31, police said. Earlier on Thursday, the day's first suicide car bombing killed 16 policemen and five civilians in the same neighbourhood, signalling a new round bomb violence one day after residents suffered through Baghdad's bloodiest day of the war. more

NEW UPEACE PUBLICATION The Role of Media in Conflict Prevention and Peace Building: The course described in this book was an activity of the Institute of Media, Peace and Security. It is rich in ideas, theories, examples and case studies, and analyzes the crucial issue of the media's role in conflict and peace. It neither blames the media for starting and fueling wars nor promotes them as potential peace-makers. It simply sees the press as a uniquely powerful echo chamber of competing realities.

Peace and Conflict Studies
Conflict is an inescapable part of the human experience. While conflict is often viewed as being undesirable, it is not necessarily "bad" nor the result of unreasonable or evil intentions. Conflict need not lead to violence and can actually serve the positive function of enabling society to develop creative solutions to current social problems. Conflict and the competition that arises from it, if managed properly, can actually serve as the "glue" that holds together a peaceable society. The purpose of the Peace and Conflict Studies (PACS) program is to explore why conflict and violence occurs, to understand how conflict can be managed, utilized, and transformed by "collaborative decision-making" to accomplish constructive ends, and to facilitate real-life, hands-on, "in the field" learning of peace and conflict issues through Internship placements with a wide variety of peace, justice, and development agencies. A theoretical understanding of peace and conflict, as well as training in the practical skills necessary to practice the techniques, are explored. What is Peace and Conflict Studies (PACS)?

VERSION FRANCOPHONE If every Learner on WeaponWorld Cast off misgivings and worked to the same plan, We could build PeaceWorld within one generation. FIRST THINGS FIRST, WORLD PEACE FIRST! Link to: We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there is such a thing as being too late. Procrastination is still the thief of time. Life often leaves us standing bare, naked and dejected with a lost opportunity. We may cry out desperately for time to pause in her passage, but time is deaf to every plea and rushes on. There is an invisible book of life that faithfully records our vigilance or our neglect. We still have a choice today: nonviolent coexistence or violent co-annihilation. Martin Luther King, Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community http://ww.forusa.org/nonviolence/MLK_WorldHouse.html CAUTION The following is a free BOOK over 1000 pages long. If heavy reading scares you, depart now. If you want to share liberty, launch liftoff or World Peace for that matter you and many others must agree to study the same basic text, give voice to it, and act on it. No text is perfect.
