65. EUROPAEA
Bilingual (French/English) journal of European ethnology.
http://www.unica.it/europaea/
arises from renewed interest in those studies generically defined as "European ethnology", and thus from the need for a new tool for investigation and confrontation, available to anyone in the world concerned with Europe from ethnological or anthropological viewpoint, regardless of his theoretical orientation, his subject or his research methods.
's purpose is to attempt to publish not only contributions regarding theoretical and methodological issues, but particularly works on inter-European comparison and analysis (or those stimulating comparison and analysis) as well as brief monographs on European peoples or regions.
also intends to act as an intermediary in information and discussion, proposals and comments, even those beyond the already vague thematic and geopolitical limits implicit in the terms "ethnology", "anthropology", "folklore" and also "European".
is not presented with a pre-established line or format. It intends to invent itself as it goes along, using a style suggested by the contributions it will succeed in solliciting, either directly or indirectly, from whoever is working on old or new themes regarding Europeans and their ways of life.

Introduction to the International Core Data Standard for Ethnology/Ethnography
This page is an introduction to the International Core Data Standard for Ethnology/Ethnography . It is one of a number of pages about museum information standards prepared by the International Committee for Documentation of the International Council of Museums ( ICOM-CIDOC The International Core Data Standards for Ethnology / Ethnography has been prepared by the CIDOC Ethno Working Group . The preparation of the International Core Data Standards for Ethnology / Ethnography was one of the principal aims of the CIDOC Ethno Working Group established in September 1993 at the CIDOC Lubljana Conference. To provide the basis for the International Core Data Standards for Ethnology/Ethnography , the EWG prepared a questionnaire to survey the data standards used in ethnographical, ethnological , anthropological, open air museums and other museums having these types of collections. The questionnaire (with English and French versions) was prepared and distributed to the National Coordinators after a year of work by the EWG members, who discussed the questions of content, length and goals and tested it. The National Coordinators were found by making contacts during the CIDOC Conferences with people from different countries, by inviting EWG members to become National Co-ordinators or to find a National Coordinator, by making contacts with the members of the European Ethnological Museum Network trying to find National Co-ordinators through them and by writing to the Chairs of all the ICOM National Committees, asking them for assistance to find the National Coordinators for the survey.

    Ethnology
Ethnology in SIL focuses on developing cultural awareness through training and research. Developing cultural awareness by:
    • providing inter- and cross-cultural training. investigating worldview diversity. producing tools for research and data collection.
    Training
Training in ethnology is designed to encourage cultural awareness and to develop practical field research skills. Research is fostered by providing consultant help to SIL fieldworkers, by producing regional and international ethnography publications, and by developing research software tools and support. Training is vital to the work of SIL. SIL has been training field workers for over 60 years. Cross-cultural training is a natural outgrowth of SIL's original emphasis on applied linguistic fieldwork. This training is an important ingredient for successful cross-cultural living. Most SIL schools have an intensive introduction to cultural anthropology and field methods. Also available are courses on cultural change and area studies. Instructors have MA or Ph.D. degrees from prominent universities throughout the world. In field situations, the Ethnology department provides workshops in a variety of ethnographic specialties: research techniques, cognitive studies, kinship studies, etc. These are critical for further professional development of field personnel and to encourage research production.
