Asian American Studies Collection
The Mission of the Asian American Studies Collections (AASC) is primarily to
support the curriculum program of the undergraduate and graduate students and
the research of the faculty in the Ethnic Studies Department. It is also to provide
support in this area to the other University of California campuses and the general
community at large.
Often the term “East Asian” and “Asian American” cause confusion in relation to
library collections. Traditionally, the East Asian collections focused on East Asian
countries such as Japan, Korea, the Philippines, and China rather than on the
distinct experiences of Asians in America or of Chinese in other countries, known
as ChineseOverseas. Asian Americans include the following groups: Asian Indians, Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, South Asians (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka Americans), and Southeast Asians (Burmese, Cambodian (Kampuchean), Lao, Lao Hmong, Lao Mien, Thai, Vietnamese Americans) . The Asian American Studies Collection (AASC) is the result of intensive acquisition for more than twenty five years. It is today one of the most

Research categories
Research conducted by
members of CEETUM falls
into three main categories: 1) Citizenship, exclusion, and racism
This category involves research on citizenship and pluralism (theories, models, public policy, and social practices) as well as on the dynamics of social inclusion and exclusion, with particular attention to racism and discrimination. 2) Immigration, ethnic pluralism, and social dynamics
Research in this category touches on migratory flows and immigrant integration, transformations in ethnic relations, the redefinition of ethno-linguistic boundaries in Montreal, and urban dynamics, including coexistence at the neighbourhood level and residential trajectories and segregation. 3) Ethnic relations, training, and education
The third category has to do with research on the role of education in constructing ethnic relations. This includes the adaptation of educational institutions, and diversity management and education in divided societies. This category also has a section devoted to the retention of languages-of-origin.
Reserch units
Several of these research
projects are conducted by
the six research units affiliated with CEETUM.

Ethnic Studies refers to the investigation, exploration, and involvement with those factors and areas that bear on the lives and experiences, both past and present, of ethnically distinct minority groups in the U.S. The Institute for Ethnic Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is composed of three separate programs: Latino and Latin American Studies, African American and African Studies, and Native American Studies. Although they operate together under the leadership of a single Director, each program has its own coordinator and plans its own curriculum and activities. The Institute offers several interdisciplinary programs of study. Courses are taught by core faculty who hold formal joint appointments within the Institute and by affiliated faculty from various departments within the College of Arts and Sciences, such as Anthropology, English, Geography, History, Modern Languages and Literatures, Political Science, and Sociology, as well as other colleges at UNL, such as Fine and Performing Arts, Business Administration, and Teachers College. The Institute for Ethnic Studies and the three programs also sponsor or co-sponsor a variety of lectures, symposia, research projects, and cultural events on campus, and serve as a resource for UNL students, faculty, and staff as well as the wider community.

Welcome to the Ethnic Studies Minor homepage. Ethnic Studies at UW-River Falls is an interdisciplinary minor that provides an excellent complement to many majors on campus. The program focuses on the experience of African Americans, Asian Americans, Latino Americans, and Native Americans. In examining these groups, the program provides curriculum that explores the intersection between race, ethnicity, gender, and class in the context of U.S. institutions. In addition, the program provides curriculum that compares race, ethnicity, gender, and class between the U.S. and international contexts. We encourage students to consider a Double Minor in Ethnic Studies and Women's Studies. The double minor provides an in depth exploration of issues surrounding race, ethnicity, and gender. Also, it is practical as students can complete the double minor with minimal additional credits. To find out more about the Ethnic Studies minor, feel free to explore the links indicated at the left of this page. Also, if you have questions, please contact our coordinator, Dr. Cyndi Kernahan at
