QUOTABLE QUOTES
"In every instance where the findings of archaeology pertain to the Biblical record, the archaeological evidence confirms, sometimes in detailed fashion, the historical accuracy of Scripture. In those instances where the archaeological findings seem to be at variance with the Bible, the discrepancy lies with the archaeological evidence, i.e., improper interpretation, lack of evidence, etc. not with the Bible."
Dr. Bryant C. Wood, archaeologist, Associates for Biblical Research What is the most important archaeological work currently going on in terms of evidence for the truth of God's Word? At Tell el-Dab'a, ancient Ramesses, the eastern delta of Egypt, evidence is being recovered that relates to the Sojourn and Exodus - Events in Israelite history largely written off as legend by today's critical scholars. Dr. Bryant C. Wood, archaeologist

An illustrated introduction from the Department of Anthropology at the University of South Dakota.
http://www.usd.edu/anth/midarch/arch.htm
What is archaeology?
The Bliss Bone Bed Site Archaeology is the scientific study of peoples of the past... their culture and their relationship with their environment. The purpose of archaeology is to understand how humans in the past interacted with their environment, and to preserve this history for present and future learning.
What archaeology isn't.
Sometimes people get confused about what archaeology studies.
Why study archaeology?
Archaeological sites are a non-renewable resource; that is, once they are destroyed, the information they contained is lost forever. By learning about life long ago through archaeology, we can learn many ecology and history lessons that are still applicable today. Follow these links to find out more about archaeology: What do archaeologists do? How are sites found? What do archaeologists do at a site? What can we learn from artifacts? ... A rare World War II-era B-25C bomber was recovered from Lake Murray in Columbia, South Carolina. The plane crashed and sank after losing power during a training mission in 1943. The crew was rescued. Work continues at the Salisbury Confederate Prison in North Carolina, but the dedicated volunteers have not had much luck. A paper published in American Antiquity suggests that California's Chumash Indians learned boat building from Polynesians who visited the Santa Barbara Channel between 400 and 800 A.D. The authors, a linguist and an archaeologist, agree with their critics that more evidence is needed. In his new movie The Myth , Jackie Chan plays an archaeologist who promotes the repatriation of artifacts to their countries of origin. Then of course he becomes a Qin-dynasty general who rescues an ancient princess. More News Recent Headlines

September, 2005 Iraq Update With all of the bad news coming out of Iraq, it good to report that the looting of the Iraq Museum was not as disastrous as the initial reports suggested. Many of the pieces that were missing in April 2003 had been removed for safekeeping by members of the Museum staff. Nevertheless, some 15,000 objects are known to have been stolen including a number of what can only be described as masterpieces. The loss to the cultural heritage of the world would be enormous if they were to disappear entirely or be destroyed. An up-to-date database of the missing objects can be found on the web page of the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago. The link is: http://oi.uchicago.edu/OI/IRAQ/dbfiles/Iraqdatabasehome.htm
