    Anthropology
Anthropology is the study of how humans have developed and adapted, both culturally and physically, to the demands of the world around them. Anthropologists examine the origins of the human species and the development of value systems and social relationships. Well-known anthropologists include Margaret Mead, famous for her work in the Samoan and New Guinea cultures, and Jane Goodall, who has made significant discoveries about primate societies. If you are interested in the biological evolution of humans, how people live in various cultural settings or how different societies have emerged, Anthropology would be a good choice of study. At The University of Winnipeg, you can specialize in Cultural Anthropology, Archaeology or Physical Anthropology, or you may choose an integrated program that includes all three areas. Practical experience is also available through the Archaeological or Primatology Field Schools offered in the Spring Session.

Welcome to the Department of Sociology and Anthropology
B achelor of arts and bachelor of science degrees are offered with majors in Sociology and Anthropology. The Department of Sociology and Anthropology provides students with a wide variety of courses designed to further understanding and perception of social problems, social processes and differing cultures within and outside the U.S. S ociology attempts to understand human behavior through an examination of individuals within group settings, placing particular emphasis upon the social forces which influence behavior. A central goal of sociology is to have students gain insight into how their own lives are influenced by the social relationships around them. Virtually all human behavior is social behavior; thus, coursesin sociology examine in detail social groups of a variety of sizes and compositions. The anthropology major offers courses which help students understand humanity in all its various aspects. Cultural anthropology describes and analyzes living cultures. Physical anthropology studies biological aspects of humans and other primates and explores the interactions between biology and culture. The third subfield of anthropology, archaeology reconstructs past cultures through analysis of cultural remnants left behind.

    Anthropology
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Anthropology (from the Greek word , "human") consists of the study of humankind (see genus Homo ). It is holistic in two senses: it is concerned with all humans at all times, and with all dimensions of humanity. A primary trait that traditionally distinguished anthropology from other humanistic disciplines is an emphasis on cross-cultural comparisons. This distinction has, however, become increasingly the subject of controversy and debate, with anthropological methods now being commonly applied in single society/group studies. In the United States anthropology' is traditionally divided into four sub-disciplines:
