William Young 's father was Henry Young, a grocer, and his mother was Hephzibah Jeal. William was his parents' eldest son and he was brought up by his parents as a Baptist. He attended the City of London School where the headmaster was particularly fascinated by mathematics. This headmaster was Edwin A Abott, who was the author of the famous popular mathematical work Flatland. He immediately saw the potential that Young had for mathematics and he encouraged him in that direction. In 1881 Young entered Peterhouse, Cambridge, to begin his undergraduate studies of mathematics. At Cambridge Young was an outstanding student showing far more mathematical ability than any of the other students in his year. However to achieve the position of First Wrangler (the top position in the list of First Class graduates) in the Mathematical Tripos required enormous dedication and training in the type of examination questions set in the Tripos. It would be fair to say that the First Wrangler was the most skilled at answering Tripos questions rather than the best mathematician and many of the great mathematicians who attended Cambridge failed to gain this distinction. Young was one such student for he made a very conscious decision that becoming First Wrangler was less important to him than having varied interests, both academic and sporting, at university. He was fourth wrangler in 1884. While at Cambridge he put aside the Baptist religion of his family and was baptised into the Church of England.

This dinnerware has a modern yet handcrafted and even, on some pieces, a primitive look. The square or rectangular shape of plates and platters is sleek and sophisticated, while the twisted rope handles and the hand-applied glazes give the dinnerware its handmade look.

The 78th Virginia Militia Grayson County
This is from an undated militia roster, Confederate, per National Archives, probably prior to secession, but no doubt very early in the Civil War Conflict. There were 338 soldiers in this unit. This group of men were mobilized by Humphrey Marshall in early 1862 and their duty station was Moccisan Gap in Scott County. Marshall recruited a company and a half from this body of men, all of Company C, and some for Company G of the 63rd Virginia Infantry ADAMS, ALLEN

htmlAdWH('93212816', '728', '90'); Main My First Home Page I am searching for relatives of my father Edwin S Mack Jr.
After searching for him since I was about 17, I finally found my oldest half brother, Edwin S Mack III, in the fall of 2000. However, missing still are cousins and other half siblings, as well as Jonathan Adair Mack who has had no contact with his family for over 20 years.
There are many things we have been TOLD about Edwin that are not verifiable... a lot of what my mother was told conflicts with what he told his second wife and her children. However, here are the things that I have heard with the stories as resolved as possible.
Edwin was born in either Florida or NY in January 1910 or 1911. On his official papers from things such as drivers license, pilot license, military papers, and social security, both places and dates are listed. Edwin III says that he was told our father was born in NY, so that is the most likely truth.
He was the grandson of German (Jewish) immigrants, although he claimed they changed their names in Austria and imigrated from there. Edwin had not heard the Austrian connection, and since his mother

Notable Youngs Kin William Ledyard - Commander at Fort Griswold When Arnold Ravaged the Area
William Ledyard - Commander at Fort Griswold When Arnold Ravaged the Area Benedict Arnold was even more despised as a traitor in 1781, when he led British troops into the Norwich / New London area of Connecticut. Soldiers were killed after surrendering, and even the leader of Fort Griswold was run through with his own sword after he had handed it to his captor.
LEDYARD, William The Twentieth Century Biographical Dictionary of Notable Americans: Volume VI page 371
William Ledyard was a double Youngs descendant, being a descendant of both Reverend John Youngs of Southold, Long Island, and Rev Youngs sister, Martha Youngs and her husband, Thomas Moore. Following are his Youngs lines of descent:
    1 Christopher Yonges 1545 - 1626
    .. +Margaret Elwin 1565 - 1630
    ........... 2 John Youngs, Reverend 1598 - 1672

Young Joins in Announcing Creation of Rehabilitation Center for Wounded Service Members
July 28 Representative C.W. Bill Young today joined with the Intrepid Fallen heroes Fund in announcing the creation of a new state-of-the-art rehabilitation and physical therapy center at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Through Young's leadership on the Appropriations Committee, Congress recently raised the death gratuity for families of fallen service members from roughly $12,000 to $100,000 and raised the optional Servicemembers Group Life Insurance coverage from $250,000 to $400,000. As a result, the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, which had previously provided a private gratuity to families of the fallen, shifted its program from direct grants to military families to the construction of "The Center for the Intrepid," a world class facility for military personnel who have been catastrophically disabled in operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and other conflicts around the globe. "So many men and women in uniform have made an extraordinary sacrifice to secure freedom and liberty around the globe and to protect our homeland," Young said. "With this new facility, the Army will continue to ensure that our wounded heroes returning from battle receive the absolute best in military medicine and rehabilitation services. They deserve nothing less."
