RE-LIVED Fun photos of some of our Tandem Discovery Flights [click here] UTAH INVASION (Phillips Ridge -Jackson Hole, Wy) Jackson Hole Paragliding. All in all, too much fun and too much to do. COWBOY UP FAMILY REUNION -"Cake & Eat TOO!" (The Dave Thompson Story) Fly Fishing, Horseback Riding, Golfing, Softball, Parks, Mountains, Lakes, and of course HANG GLIDING, etc. were just a few fun adventures tapped into by the Thompson-27 persons strong - Family Reunion. Dave Thompson (attorney, h/g pilot and reunion "trail boss" from Boulder, CO) cattle called and herded his entire clan (hailing from all over the country) to the land of Cowboy Up for some outdoor heaven. Tandem Hang Gliding flights we prime fodder. Some who didn't get a chance vowed they'd try it next time. In particular Dave's brother aka "THE COLONEL" an ex-air force aviator, who initially furrowed his brow, as he scowled and turned his nose up at "this hang gliding stuff" - announced after watching the "Tandem Fly Action" that he "changed his mind" and would like to give it a try next time (well "Bully" to you Colonel). And he'll probably get a chance since the family had such a fantastic time they want to make this trip an annual event.

Shakespeare at School
Shakespeare had 'small Latine and lesse Greeke', according to his contemporary, Ben Jonson. This famous judgement can be very misleading to those living more than four centuries later. It must be understood in relative terms: not only was Jonson himself an extremely learned man, but the literary culture of Elizabethan England was saturated in the Roman and Greek classics. What Jonson deems 'small' appears impressively large to those living in the late twentieth century, where classical literature in the original language is an ever receding, increasingly rarefied body of knowledge. Shakespeare's formal education was complete when he left Stratford's grammar school at the age of fifteen or sixteen but he would already have acquired more mastery of Latin than most British graduates in the language today.

Though he was a generation older than Lewis and Clark, Bartram had a sensitivity that would not reappear in naturalist writings until the 20th century. He once wrote of an orphaned bear cub "appearing in agony fell to weeping and looking upwards, then towards us, and cried out like a child." For more information:

W illiam Marshal and Isabel de Clare were married in August 1189. He was about forty-three and she was seventeen years old. They had ten children; five sons and five daughters, and all of the children lived. The birth dates of these children are not known, but it is known that William and Richard were the first two born. They are both mentioned in a marriage contract dated November 6, 1203, that was a contract to marry William the younger to Baldwin de Bethune’s daughter Alice, and if William should not live to fulfill the contract, then Richard would be married to her. It is known that William the younger was born in Normandy, but this is the only known fact of the birth of any of these children. T aking into consideration the ages of Marshal and Isabel, the frequency of Marshal being out of England accompanying the king and his army, and the survival of all ten of the children; it is possible to frame the births in terms of roughly sixteen to eighteen month intervals between 1190 and 1207. In 1207 Isabel would have been thirty-five years old and Marshal would have been in his sixties; this would be the possible age limit for both to have children in their time and age. I use this conjectured time frame to give some idea of the ages of the children when they married and when they died.

Evangelical Agnosticism (1985)
William Henry Young
The Summer 1981 FREE INQUIRY contained the article " What is Agnosticism? " by H. J. Blackham. It dealt primarily with intimations of agnosticism among skeptical philosophers before 1869, when Thomas Henry Huxley invented the term as a label for his personal approach to religious and philosophical questions. This article will provide some history about agnosticism since 1869 and will suggest the reasons for the introduction of the term evangelical agnosticism . It will not deal with the relationship between the words agnosticism skepticism rationalism , and other related terms in the freethought tradition. Huxley's account of his invention of the word agnostic was written in an essay entitled "Agnosticism" some twenty years after he coined the term. At this time he was sixty-four years old and his place in the Victorian establishment was very secure. He was an original and influential member of the London School Board, president of the Royal Society, and a trustee of the British Museum. Called "Darwin's Bulldog," Huxley was renowned for his spirited defense of many scientific ideas that were unpopular with the religious establishment. He wrote: When I reached intellectual maturity and began to ask myself whether I was an atheist, a theist, or a pantheist; a materialist or an idealist; a Christian or a freethinker; I found that the more I learned and reflected, the less ready was the answer; until, at last, I came to the conclusion that I had neither art nor part with any of these denominations, except the last. The one thing in which most of these good people were agreed was the one thing in which I differed from them. They were quite sure they had attained a certain "

YOUNG, WILLIAM COCKE (1812-1862). William Cocke Young, early settler, soldier, jurist, and official, was born in Davidson County, Tennessee, on May 12, 1812. He moved to Texas in 1837 and settled at a place that became known as Sherry's Prairie, near Pecan Point in the area of Red River County. Young became the first sheriff of Red River County in 1837, and on February 5, 1844, he was appointed district attorney for the Seventh Judicial District of the Republic of Texas qv by Sam Houston. qv Young was a member of Edward H. Tarrant's qv company on an expedition against Indians, participated in the battle of Village Creek, qv and helped bury John B. Denton, qv who was killed in that engagement. Later Young was a delegate from Red River County to the Convention of 1845. qv On the outbreak of the Mexican War qv he and James Bourland qv raised a company of troops that they marched to San Antonio. In 1851 Young moved to Shawneetown, Grayson County, where he practiced law for six years and served a term as United States marshal. In 1854 he and Charles S. Taylor qv were appointed commissioners to investigate land titles in El Paso, Presidio, Kinney, Starr, Webb, Hidalgo, Cameron, and Nueces counties. Young, however, refused the appointment. At the outbreak of the Civil War

YOUNG, WILLIAM HUGH (1838-1901). William Hugh Young, Confederate army officer, was born on January 1, 1838, at Booneville, Missouri, the son of Hugh F. Young. qv In 1840 he moved with his parents to Red River County, Texas, and soon thereafter to Grayson County. Young was educated at Washington College, Tennessee, at McKenzie College, Texas, and at the University of Virginia, where he was matriculating at the outbreak of the Civil War. qv Leaving the university, Young returned to Texas to recruit a company for Confederate service. He was elected its captain. Assigned to Samuel Bell Maxey's qv Ninth Texas Infantry, Young and his command fought at the battle of Shiloh, on April 6 and 7, 1862, after which he was promoted to the command of the regiment. Young led the Ninth Texas in the battles of Perryville, Kentucky (October 8, 1862); Murfreesboro, Tennessee (December 31, 1862-January 3, 1863), where he was wounded in the shoulder and had two horses shot from under him; and in the Vicksburg campaign (spring and summer 1863), in which he sustained a second wound, this to the thigh, at the battle of Jackson, Mississippi, on May 14, 1863. There, according to the official report, Young "seized the colors of his regiment in one of its most gallant charges and led it through." More modestly, Young reported of the same engagement, he "ordered the regiment to move forward with a shout, both of which they did, a la Texas." At Chickamauga (September 19 and 20, 1863) he was wounded a third time, in the chest. Transferred with his regiment to Gen. Matthew D. Ector's
