Launching New Woodhouses on Uncharted Seas:
Where do we go for guidance and security in a new setting?

    By Jack Kirk
In June and July of 1657 the brave little ship "Woodhouse" cut through the sometimes hospitable, sometimes treacherous waters of the North Atlantic as she made the voyage from London to New Amsterdam (now New York). Making landfall on the last day of July, her coming was one of the most important landings on North America's shores. It brought the seven men and four women who planted the Quaker seed in EnglandÕs North American colonies. When the "Arbella" came in 1630 bringing the Puritans to Massachusetts, it also brought the concept that rights and privileges are only for "true believers." This theology led to cruel religious persecution and the genocide of many Native Americans in New England. In 1641, the ship sailing from Old England brought Sir William Berkeley, the Royal Governor of Virginia, the architect of a society geared to maintain inequality forever based on racial slavery.

The Banks and Lanes History Group
The Banks and Lanes Group was formed in 1995 to bring together people of all ages who are interested in the history of West Middlesbrough. It is called ‘banks and lanes because it covers the town from the banks of the Tees at Newport to Whinney Banks and Fleet Bridge. The group meets in St Martin’s Church Hall, Whinney Banks, twice monthly. The group has published a lovely little booklet of memories of West Middlesbrough entitled Bridging the Years I think this may be out of print now but there are copies in some local libraries.

Counsel for the Plaintiff: B Cassells Counsel for the First Defendant: M Orwin Counsel for the Second Defendant: C Black Solicitors for the Second Defendant: Cecil Black ORDER See paragraph [5]. [1]. Mildren J: This is an application made pursuant to the Family Law Act and the inherent jurisdiction of this Court that a child reside with the plaintiffs who are to have responsibility for all decisions affecting her care, welfare and development, as well as other relief. [2]. On 29 July 1999, I made certain interlocutory orders relating to the progress of this matter for final hearing which is to commence on 6 September. One matter I left for further argument was the question of what steps, if any, should be taken to bring these proceedings to the attention of the child's natural father. The evidence before me is that the mother has not revealed the identity of the father to anyone, and he is not named on the child's birth certificate. The mother has apparently taken no interest in the child for some time (so it is asserted) and is unlikely to contest the present proceedings which amount to a custody dispute between the grand-parents and foster-parents of the child.

He was born at Norwich and was educated at Caius College Cambridge , of which society he was subsequently a fellow; was Plumian professor in the university; and continued to live at Cambridge till his death. Woodhouse's earliest work, entitled the Principles of Analytical Calculation, was published at Cambridge in 1803. In this he explained the differential notation and strongly pressed the employment of it; but he severely criticized the methods used by continental writers, and their constant assumption of non-evident principles. This was followed in 1809 by a trigonometry (plane and spherical), and in 1810 by a historical treatise on the calculus of variations and isoperimetrical problems. He next produced an astronomy ; of which the first book (usually bound in two volumes), on practical and descriptive astronomy, was issued in 1812, and the second book, containing an account of the treatment of physical astronomy by Laplace and other continental writers, was issued in 1818.

Pomys³ "zmiany re¿imu" w Iranie nie poci±ga³ prezydenta Trumana, ale kiedy w roku 1953 do Bia³ego Domu wprowadzi³ siê Eisenhower, CIA - przy wspó³pracy "Monty" Woodhouse'a, filologa klasycznego, cz³owieka o nienagannych manierach, by³ego partyzanta i g³ównego szpiega Wielkiej Brytanii w Teheranie - zmontowa³a obalenie demokratycznie wybranego rz±du Mohammada Mosaddeka. Jednak celem najwy¿szym by³o przywrócenie na cesarski tron m³odego szacha Mohammada Rezy Pahlaviego - naszego ówczesnego policjanta w Zatoce Perskiej. Dokonano tego za cenê paru milionów dolarów, samolotu wy³adowanego broni± i 300 ludzkich istnieñ. A 26 lat pó¼niej wszystko to posz³o na marne.
