EDWIN H. WILSON: UNITARIAN HUMANIST LEADER
From the Unitarian Universalist Minister Files, Andover-Harvard Theological Library, Harvard Divinity School, Cambridge MA.
by Teresa Maciocha, editor and social activist Edwin Henry Wilson was born on August 23, 1898, in Woodhaven, New York. He was raised in Concord, Massachusetts, where he attended the First Parish Church, a Unitarian fellowship. Wilson's father had no use for the church; it was his mother who introduced him to Unitarianism, albeit of the conservative variety.
Following his ordination in 1928, Wilson became a practicing Unitarian minister in Dayton, Ohio. Over the next sixty-five years, he had pulpits in Schenectady, New York; Chicago, Illinois; Yellow Springs, Ohio; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Cocoa Beach, Florida.
Throughout his life, Wilson maintained a dedication to learning, but it was during the period when he was a matriculated student that he became exposed to and convinced of the validity of the humanist outlook. His conviction that "humanism has time, science, and human need on its side" proved to be life-long.

Edwin Powell Hubble - The man who discovered the cosmos
Edwin Powell Hubble "I knew that even if I were second or third rate, it was astronomy that mattered." This sentence, written by Edwin Hubble recalling his youth, tells us a lot about this stubborn, ambitious, sometimes even snobbish and arrogant young man. A man who eventually broke the promise made to his father and followed the path dictated by his passion. As a result of Hubble's work, our perception of mankind's place in the Universe has changed forever: humans have once again been set aside from the centre of the Universe. When scientists decided to name the Space Telescope after the founder of modern cosmology the choice could not have been more appropriate.
A promising student
Edwin Hubble was born in Missouri in 1889, the son of an insurance executive, and moved to Chicago nine years later. At his high school graduation in 1906, the principal said: "Edwin Hubble, I have watched you for four years and I have never seen you study for ten minutes." He paused, leaving young Edwin on tenterhooks a moment longer, before continuing:

A. Edwin Wilson - During the years 1953 through 1970, the written ministry of Rev. A. Edwin Wilson regularly reached the homes of many Christians throughout the country via a religious periodical published under his direction. The articles in this periodical covered a broad range of biblical subjects and came from the pen of an individual who, through many years of prayer, study and meditation upon the Scriptures, was pre-eminently qualified to write on these subjects. 01. STATEMENT OF MARK CORALLO, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS,
ON THE EDWIN WILSON CASE:
“In a hearing today in the Southern District of Texas, the Department of Justice announced that it will not pursue a retrial of the 1983 prosecution of Edwin Wilson . The decision not to retry the case was based on a careful review of all the circumstances surrounding it, including the difficulty of marshalling the facts and witnesses after 21 years. While our decision resolves the case in Texas, Wilson’s convictions in the Eastern District of Virginia for unauthorized exporting of firearms and his convictions in the Southern District of New York for attempted murder, obstruction of justice and witness tampering remain undisturbed. Wilson, who is 75 years old, will be eligible for release from prison in the Fall of 2004, and will remain on supervised release thereafter.” Source: Justice Department
