9 Bedford Row. Chambers of Anthony Berry QC London WC1R 4AZ Our chambers have a history which goes back over half a century to the years just after the Second World War. They were set up at 4 Brick Court in Middle Temple by Edward Terrell and occupied accommodation previously occupied by Lord Denning. They remained there until 2000 when they moved to a new home at 9 Bedford Row.
The chambers started as a common law set but for the last 30 years or so have specialised in criminal law and related areas.
During our history we have had no more than five heads of chambers and two senior clerks.
Many of our members have read law at university but others have come from other academic and professional backgrounds. Many are "home grown" having been pupils here but we have always been keen to take on talented practitioners from elsewhere.
Over the years we have recruited steadily and carefully and offer representation at all levels of seniority. We are delighted that the Lord Chancellor appointed four of our members as Queen's Counsel in 2003. They are Antony Chinn, David Williams, Robert Fortune and Abbas Lakha. Our newest tenants are Matthew Banham and Lucy Kennedy, to whom we extend a warm welcome.

    Chatting with Sir Ed
    The Mountain Zone:
Are you pleased that your son Peter has followed in your footsteps? Sir Edmund Hillary: Oh, I never tried to persuade him. When he was young...I think children ought to be encouraged to be interested in the out-of-doors but I never really tried to persuade him to be interested in the technical side of mountaineering. That was really something he decided to do for himself and I think he has done it very well. I wish him well obviously. Since those very early days we have never climbed together anyway. He's gone toward very technical mountaineering and the technique and equipment are very different now.
Hear Sir Edmond Hillary talk about his influence on his son:
The Mountain Zone: With the growing popularity of Nepal's mountains can the region realistically be saved from over use and be preserved in a wild state?

    THE CORREA PAGD TECHNOLOGY:
    AN INTRODUCTION BY HAROLD ASPDEN
I have been invited to say a few words of introduction for the video presentation by Paulo and Alexandra Correa which follows. What you will see is a quite remarkable achievement because the video shows how their ingenuity and dedication have made possible something which scientists regard as impossible, namely the generation of electric power as if one is drawing energy from nowhere. Their invention harnesses the energy of a pulsed electrical discharge in what you might regard as a kind of lamp, a lamp which glows but feeds more electrical power back into its supply circuit than it draws with each pulsation. It is a quite incredible discovery, but yet it is a reality. The technical field involved is that of electrodynamics, a subject which concerns the interaction of electric currents, and you will see that in Dr. Correa's introduction he couples my name with the formulation of a new law of electrodynamics that he had seen in my published work and which had, I am pleased to say, been a source of inspiration in helping to understand the mystery of what he and his wife Alexandra had discovered in their experiments. So, for the benefit of physicists who might be shown this video, it is appropriate if I describe a little about the relevant historical background concerning electrodynamics and my efforts at a time before I had even heard of the Correas' research project.

Edmund Taylor Whittaker 24. Oktober in Southport Lancashire , England; † 24. Sein Werk „A History of the Theories of Aether and Electricity, from the Age of Descartes to the Close of the Nineteenth Century“ (1910, erweitert 1953) machte ihn zu einem wichtigen Wissenschaftshistoriker. 1896 wurde er Fellow des Trinity College, Cambridge und 1905 Fellow der Royal Society . Ab 1906 war er Professor f¼r Astronomie an der University of Dublin und Astronomer Royal of Ireland. 1912 bis 1946 war er Professor f¼r Mathematik an der University of Edinburgh . 1945 wurde er zum Ritter geschlagen. 1902 fand er eine allgemeine L¶sung der Laplace-Gleichung Bearbeiten

Adventure at the Top of the World Amputee Who Climbed Mt. Everest to Speak at IWU, April 17
Find out, April 17, when Thomas Whittaker shares the adventure of a lifetime in an IWU Family Day presentation, "Making It Happen." Whittaker is the first disabled person to reach the top of Mt. Everest, the world's tallest mountain. Whittaker's multi-media presentation is open to the public, free-of-charge.
Climbing Mt. Everest In May 1998, Whittaker started out on his third attempt to reach Mt. Everest's peak. The mission, which received corporate sponsorship, was dubbed: "Everest Challenge '98." The trek incorporated three projects: • An environmental restoration project. • An All Abilities Trek involving a group of physically disabled people on a climb to the Everest Base Camp. • A service initiative enabling Prescott College students to participate. Prescott College is located in Prescott, Ariz. Whittaker realized his lifelong dream of reaching Mt. Everest's summit on May 27. His wife, Cindy, and their 6-year-old daughter assisted the All Abilities Trek and waited at the base camp for Whittaker's return. New Zealand climber Edmund Hillary, 33, and his Sherpa guide, Tenzing Norkay, 39, made the first successful ascent of Mt. Everest, reaching the peak on May 29, 1953.
