Horse Ulcer
Reporter : Jonica Newby Producer : Paul Schneller Researcher : Rob Hodgson Transcript Related Info 9 August 2001 On the outside, Australiavs racehorses are a picture of glowing health. On the inside, they're hiding deep, ugly pain. In 1999, researchers came to the shocking realisation that 90% of Australian racehorses are suffering from stomach ulcers. What's more, the ulcers are caused by the way horses are traditionally managed. Yet two years on, who knows about it? And are trainers doing anything to fix it? Dr Jonica Newby investigates this disturbing animal welfare issue.

Narration: These are the elites of Australian racing. Yet despite the best care, the majority of racehorses are suffering a painful disease that would hospitalise a human. And until very recently, we didn't have the faintest idea anything was wrong. Jonica Newby: Four years ago, the 3-metre endoscope arrived in Australia. It was the first time, veterinarians had an endoscope long enough to pass all the way past the pharynx, down through the oesophagus, and let them peer deep into the horse's stomach. And what they saw were holes.

Getting Even with Dad (1994)
reviewed by
John Walker
My form of "rating": On the first viewing, I alternated between laughter and being pleasantly wired. (Nothing hyper, mind you, just a pleasant "What's gonna happen next!?" [Let it be noted that I get wired easily.]) On the second viewing, the humor predominated. (I almost became the most dreaded theater companionstarting to laugh *before* the joke!) The primary dilemma: This is one flick where reviewers don't have to give any opinions of their own. For many of you, I can simply list some data, and I'll convince you that this is a flick you'll probably like a lot or probably hate intensely. Datum: It co-stars *Macaulay Culkin*. Datum: It has echoes (not very strong) of the HOME ALONE sagas. There are other similar datums, too, but these two should be enough for now. You might already have heard the story, but here it is. Ray (Ted Danson) has planned the perfect heist: gold coins to be lifted with the aid of two partnersBobby (Saul Rubinek) and Carl (Gailard Sartain). True, their last escapade got them four years in Folsom, but at least Ray used the time wellto learn cake decorating, which he now does for a living in San Francisco. Unfortunately, the flaw in the ointment is that Ray's son Timmy (Culkin) has been dropped on him for a week. Ray's estranged wife died a few years ago, and Timmy has been living with Ray's sister Kitty. Well, she's getting married, and dumps Timmy for a week. Ray and company pull off the heist, and merely have to sit on the coins for a week while their fence gets cash. Regrettably, Timmy is on to them, purloins the coins, and holds them for blackmail: a week with Ray actually acting like a fathertaking him to a ball game, the aquarium, roller coasters, the works.

Walker Family Genealogy
We get a lot of interest in our family history since our business is so much a result of our Celtic heritage. We hope eventually to add a proper genealogy page to this web site. Until then to be a little more specific about the Walker ancestry we offer the following on our Scottish and Irish ancestors.
This is written by Stephen Walker, b 3 march 1957 Syracuse NY. Married Susan M. Thomson 11 July 1981, Andover NY. Rhynie Man Several important Pictish stones have been excavated at Rhynie in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. I am absolutely sure that the so-called "Rhynie Man" is a direct ancestor. Probably one of the many Jimmy Walkers down towards the murky roots of the family tree. The balding hair pattern, tallness, posture, turned up toes and distinctive nose and teeth are all family traits that survive in various relatives. I cannot understand why he is always described as holding an ax, he is obviously golfing. Click here if you are planning on visiting Rhynie. My great grandfather who immigrated from Scotland was John Walker James Walker and Margaret Reid were married at Tullynessle and Forbes, Aberdeenshire on 14 June 1857. They are buried in Fyvie, Aberdeenshire where James was railroad stationmaster. They had at least nine children as follows:

  • Although the editors of this volume claim that their intention is "not to begin establishing a new orthodoxy within Milton studies,"(16) they make clear in their introduction that in presenting these twelve essays they aim, first, to reassert that Milton is the author of De doctrina Christiana (and so to discredit William Hunter who argues he may not be). Second, they understand these essays to show that Milton is not, as critics such as C. S. Lewis and Stanley Fish claim, "a poet of the timeless verities of Christianity" (3), but is a heretical theologian and poet. Finally, because earlier scholars, such as William Empson and Maurice Kelley, have made many of these claims but have been muted by the "persistent desire to present Milton as an orthodox Christian" (12), the editors aim to give credit where credit has not been given, but is due.
Some of the essays in the volume do indeed support this agenda. Though, in "Milton's Antiprelatical Tracts and the Marginality of Doctrine," Thomas Corns observes that Milton in these tracts takes issue not with Laudian doctrine but with Laudian practice and discipline, he speculates that this is because in the early 1640s, Milton "probably had notions too distinctively Arminian for him to center his critique of episcopalianism in doctrine" (44). That is to say, Milton at this time had notions that would have been deemed as heretical by the Calvinist theology of the ascendant Presbyterian Puritans. It is mainly because of this commitment to Arminianism (which is also emerging in

    100. Walker, John E.
walker, john E. (1941). I was born in Halifax, Yorkshire on January 7th, 1941 to Thomas Ernest walker and Elsie walker (née Lawton).
    http://www.cartage.org.lb/en/themes/Biographies/MainBiographies/W/Walker/Walker.
Walker, John E. I was born in Halifax, Yorkshire on January 7th, 1941 to Thomas Ernest Walker and Elsie Walker (née Lawton). My father was a stone mason, and a talented amateur pianist and vocalist. I was brought up with my two younger sisters, Judith and Jennifer, in a rural environment overlooking the Calder valley near Elland, and then in Rastrick. I received an academic education at Rastrick Grammar School, specializing in Physical Sciences and Mathematics in the last three years. I was a keen sportsman, and became school captain in soccer and cricket. In 1960, I went to St. Catherine's College, Oxford, and received the B.A. degree in Chemistry in 1964. In 1965, I began research on peptide antibiotics with E. P. Abraham in the Sir Willian Dunn School of Pathology, Oxford, and was awarded the D. Phil. degree in 1969. During this period, I became aware of the spectacular developments made in Cambridge in the 1950s and early 1960s in Molecular Biology through a series of programmes on BBC television given by John Kendrew, and published in 1966 under the title "The Thread of Life". These programmes made a lasting impression on me, and made me want to know more about the subject. Two books, "Molecular Biology of the Gene" by J. D. Watson, first published in 1965, and William Hayes' "Bacterial Genetics" helped to assuage my appetite for more information.
