Born in London in 1972. David Dawson began his dance training at the age of nine at the Rona Hart School of Dance. He attended the Arts Educational School and the Royal Ballet School, graduating in 1991 after winning the Prix Professionel at the Prix de Lausanne and the Alicia Markova Award for most promising student. He joined Birmingham Royal Ballet in 1991 and was nominated Best Newcomer of the year by Dance and Dancers Magazine. In 1994 he joined English National Ballet, and in 1995 he became a member of Het Nationale Ballet where he danced in many classical productions as well as exploring the neo-classical and modern repertoire. Was invited by William Forsythe to become a principal with Ballett Frankfurt in 2000. Performed the solo roles in classical ballets including The Sleeping Beauty Romeo and Juliet (MacMillan, Nureyev, van Dantzig), The Magic Flute Giselle Swan Lake (Wright, van Dantzig, Struchkova) as well as

Van Dantzigprijs 2005
Eens in de vijf jaar reikt de VVS de Van Dantzigprijs uit. De volgende uitreiking geschiedt tijdens het lustrum van de VVS in 2005. De prijs is ter nagedachtenis aan prof. dr. D. van Dantzig , de grondlegger van de mathematische statistiek in Nederland. De Van Dantzigprijs wordt uitgereikt aan een vakgenoot die op 1 januari 2005 niet ouder is dan 40 jaar en die de afgelopen vijf jaren een bij uitstek waardevolle bijdrage-hetzij theoretisch, hetzij praktisch van aard-heeft geleverd aan ons vakgebied. Eerdere winnaars van de Van Dantzigprijs zijn Van Zwet (1970), Van Meurs (1975), Hordijk (1980), Rinnooy Kan (1985), Gill (1990), Ridder (1995) en Van der Vaart (2000).

Door de aktiviteiten van Van Dantzig heeft de Wiskundige Statistiek in Nederland een hoge vlucht genomen. Met recht kan gezegd warden dat Van Dantzig de pionier en stimulator van de Mathematische Statistiek en de Kansrekening in Nederland is geweest. Zijn "school" stond al gauw bekend als de Amsterdamse school. Zijn collegedictaten zijn van uitzonderlijke kwaliteit, zijn publicaties van hoog niveau. Hij heeft interessante publicaties in ons tijdschrift, Statistica Neerlandica, geschreven. Onder zijn leiding is na de stormvloedramp in 1953 onderzoek gedaan ten behoeve van het Deltaplan.

Van Dantzig prijs voor jonge statisticus en besliskundige
Sem Borst en Mark van der Laan ontvangen op maandag 11 april de vijfjaarlijkse Van Dantzig prijs voor hun baanbrekende werk in de statistiek en het operationeel onderzoek. De prijs wordt uitgereikt tijdens de Statistische Dag 2005, het jaarlijkse congres van de Vereniging voor Statistiek en Operationele Research VVS-OR ) op de Vrije Universiteit. De jonge onderzoekers lichten hun werk hier zelf toe. Sem Borst (1966) is actief op het gebied van wachtrij - en netwerkmodellen en hun toepassingen in de analyse van computer- en communicatiesystemen. Na zijn promotie aan de Universiteit van Bell Laboratories en Lucent Techonologies in de Verenigde Staten. Nu is hij verbonden aan het Centrum voor Wiskunde en Informatica (CWI), een aan NWO gelieerd instituut in Amsterdam en de Technische Universiteit Eindhoven. Borst geldt als een van ‘s werelds beste jonge onderzoekers op het snijvlak van wiskunde en communicatiesystemen. Hij leverde grote bijdragen aan het onderzoek naar de prestatie van packet scheduling wireless networks callcenters en andere middelen voor efficiënte datacommunicatie.     The Artists DAVID PALMER
    Founding Artistic Director, Choreographer, Dancer first danced with the Australian Ballet. Since then he has danced as a Principal Dancer with the Joffrey Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Koninklijk Ballet Van Vlaanderen, San Francisco Ballet and currently with Maximum Dance Company. He has also appeared as a guest artist with Sydney Dance Company, Ballet du Nord, PACT Ballet, the Queensland Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Joffrey Ballet of Chicago and the Australian Ballet. As a choreographer, his works have been performed by Maximum Dance Company, the Australian Ballet, San Francisco Ballet and Miami City Ballet. He has also created works for Marin Ballet, Miami Ballet Theater, Gateway Ballet of St. Louis, Marin Dance Theatre and Ballet Metropolitano de Medellin. He also directed and choreographed the Geoffrey Beene Fall Fashion Show for the San Francisco Ballet and Saks Fifth Avenue. David, in collaboration with Yanis Pikieris, has also created several works, including "The Rite of Spring"(SunPost Winner- Best Original Work of the 2002-2003 Season), "Spectrum," "Adiemus," and "The Elements" for Maximum Dance Company, the company they founded together in 1996.
