Term Paper #52853 Add to Cart (You can always remove it later) Alfred Hitchcock and Voyeurism
An analysis of the connection between voyeurism and cinema in the Alfred Hitchcock films "Rear Window" and "Vertigo". 2,128 words ( approx. 8.5 pages ), 3 sources, APA, Click here to show/hide Paper Summary
Abstract
This paper examines how Alfred Hitchcock's films deal with many psychological themes, including the idea of voyeurism. It reviews two of his films; "Rear Window" (USA, 1954, Alfred Hitchcock) and "Vertigo" (USA, 1958, Alfred Hitchcock) and discusses the occurrence of voyeurism within the narratives of both films. It also looks at the idea that certain aspects of the films can be said to be representations of the voyeuristic nature of cinema-going itself.
From the Paper:
"I will now look at Vertigo and consider how the voyeurism and the gaze of the film can be seen as much more sexual than that of Rear Window. It has been said that Rear Window seems like a comical 'test run' for the more obsessive and frightening nature of Vertigo, and that Rear Window, Vertigo and Psycho form a sort of trilogy of films that contained the them of voyeurism. Vertigo was not as popular on its original release as Rear Window. This is probably due to the fact that there is a lot more complexity and psychology in the story, or because James Stuart seemed too old to play the romantically obsessed man. The story is about Scotty (James Stewart), an acrophobic detective who has been hired by a friend to trail his beautiful and troubled wife, Madeline. His quest at first is an innocent one, but he soon becomes Madeline's obsessive stalker. "

Wiele prac Tarskiego dotyczy w³asno¶ci liczb kardynalnych, m.in. monografia Cardinal Algebras, 1949 (Algebry kardynalne)
Do innych znanych wyników z zakresu teorii mnogo¶ci nale¿y znaleziony wspólnie z S. Banachem paradoksalny rozk³ad kuli . Ponadto T. wraz z K. Kuratowskim wskazali zasadniczy paraleizm miêdzy niektórymi operacjami tworzenia zbiorów i operatorami logicznymi, np. operacji rzutowania bry³y trójwymiarowej na p³aszczyznê odpowiada dodanie kwantyfikatora "istnieje" przed opisem tej bry³y.

As for a usable or workable definition of truth (for colloquial language), I think that the texts which Alfred Tarski has formulated in the first paragraph of his well-known article (sub (1) to (6) - bibliographical notice, see below), and which he thoroughly criticises, disapproves and radically rejects, aren't that bad at all. In our booklet we wrote the following paragraph, entitled 'Truth and Untruth' (p. 21), in which is included a short text, as our proposal for a truth-definition: "It appears to be a useless occupation and a superfluous exertion, to bend backwards and to lay ourselves out, as obviously happened in the past few decades, trying to find out, what truth might be. As mankind for centuries and centuries already and always has known, truths are pieces of information (or pronouncements or announcements), whose contents is in correspondence with reality. Even, pointing to the famous liar paradox, this point of view, as we are convicted, cannot be refuted, which standpoint we hope to demonstrate further and to illustrate in the following pages (of our book)." As for Alfred Tarski's well-known article about the liar paradox, we refer to the following places:

He lectured at Warsaw until 1939, emigrated to the United States, and then taught at the Univ. of California, Berkeley (1942–68). Tarski made extensive, basic contributions to the field of metamathematics, a branch of mathematical logic. His most important contribution to logic is the semantic method, a method that allows a more exacting study of formal scientific languages. His work is characterized by a basic acceptance and free use of the assumptions of set theory. For this reason he is regarded by some as a nominalist. His publications include A Decision Method for Elementary Algebra and Geometry (1948, rev. ed. 1957) and Undecidable Theories (with others, 1953; repr. 1968).
