Abstinence Key Part of Foreign AIDS Bill

By DUNCAN OSBORNE
A House bill that will spend $15 billion to fight global AIDS over the next five years is drawing praise from activists, but they also object to a provision that dedicates one third of the HIV prevention funds to abstinence-only programs and to a so-called "conscience" clause that allows religious groups to opt out of providing services they find objectionable. LGBT, AIDS Groups Rally Around Legislature

As New York Governor George Pataki digs in for a state budget grudge match with the both the Democratic Assembly and the Republican Senate, leading LGBT and AIDS groups are casting their lot with the uncharacteristically bold legislators. The Ghost Who Continues to Haunt

    TOWNSVILLE WAAAF RECRUIT COURSE
DURING WW2 visits since 7 May 2003 By April 1942, the Fifth Air Force, USAAC was rapidly establishing itself in Townsville which was becoming a major repair, maintenance and supply base for the Americans. A number of Senior American officers were posted to Townsville. As there were not enough American service personnel in the area to act as drivers, Section Officer Rentoul received an instruction from the Air Officer Commanding North-Eastern Area to conduct a WAAAF recruit course using local enlistments. This had the prime purpose of providing 12 drivers for the US Forces in the Townsville area. The American Officers treated their WAAAF drivers much less formally than RAAF Officers would. This gave Section Officer Rentoul, some challenges in maintaining the high standard of dress, behaviour and morale that she demanded for all her WAAAF personnel. This course was the only WAAAF Recruit Course in Townsville during WW2. Members of this course were as follows:- ENLISTMENT NAME CHRISTIAN NAME MARRIED NAME SERVICE NO.

    Ladyfest Comicbook Queens Exhibition
opened on Friday the 8th of August at Spike Island Art Space in Bristol with much excitement, rum [2] and the usual thing that accompanies rum but which I refuse to publicise here. So Claire and I each collected a glass of rum and thingy and went to see what there was to see.
The exhibition was put together by Ladyfest visual arts organiser Camilla [3], who has been frantically rushing around to gather together and display an impressive collection of comic art by women around the world. In fact, it would appear the majority of contributors are from places outside of the UK.
The space had been divided into three main areas: the gallery section in the middle; some sitting room furniture [4] arranged around a circular rug to the right with piles of comic books for reading [5]; to the left some tables set up as a workshop area with a photocopier where visitors are encouraged to make their own minis. Some great ideas here. I really liked the homely sitting room area, where I bumped into one of the famous Rubins sisters and her cheerful sidekick, Julia [6].
