  • The musical language of Dal Strutt has an improvisatory feel as well as using "quasi" serial techniques, which owes as much to interests in Indian and African music as well as European tradition. Another major influence has been early European church music, especially plainchant, and the sacred works from Elizabethan and Jacobean eras as well as that of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Dal Strutt's music also reflects deeply felt philosophical and religious ideas particularly from eastern thought. The music is never compromising, and reveals an articulate, highly personal style, attracting general comments such as very powerful and original, inspiring and with vision and commitment. Selection of Works Large Scale Works include Oratorio JOHN THE BAPTIST for 2 tenor, 1 bass and baritone soloists, choir (s.a.t.b.) and orchestra.

John William Strutt 's father was the second Baron Rayleigh of Terling Place, Witham, in the county of Essex. Certainly it was a family with little previous interest in science for they were mostly landowners with interests in the countryside. One exception was Robert Boyle , who was a distant relation. Let us say at the beginning of this article that we shall refer to Strutt as Rayleigh throughout this article although he did not succeed to the title until he was 30 years old. As a boy Rayleigh suffered from poor health and his schooling at both Eton and Harrow was disrupted. He had to leave both schools after a short period due to health problems. Four years spent at the Reverend Warner's boarding school prepared Rayleigh for university and at this stage he did begin to show signs of mathematical ability. During these four years he had a private tutor but overall he showed little sign of being anything other than an average child of average ability. He entered Trinity College, Cambridge, in October 1861 where he took the mathematical Tripos. His coach at Cambridge was Edward

Jedediah Strutt , the son of William Strutt and Martha Statham, was born at South Normanton, Derbyshire in 1726. The Strutts were small farmers and part of a small Presbyterian community with strong Nonconformist religious views.
At fourteen, Jedediah was apprenticed to Ralph Massey, a wheelwright in Findern. The village was also the home of the Nonconformist Findern Academy and Jedediah came under the influence of its headmaster, Ebenezer Latham. Jedediah later married Latham's servant, Elizabeth Woollat.
In the 1750s several attempts were made by people working in the hosiery trade, to improve the stocking frame, a machine that had been invented by William Lee, a Nottinghamshire parson, in the 16th century. One man by the name of Roper, approached Strutt and his brother-in-law, William Woollat., for help with his invention. By 1757 Strutt and Woollat, had came up with the idea of an attachment that was placed in front of the stocking frame. This set of barbed hooks, operated vertically among the horizontal needles of the frame, taking the loops from the latter and reversing them to make a rib stitch.
    In early 1758 Strutt visited

The Cornish Way Over the past few years I’ve cycled many hundreds of miles through some of the loveliest parts of southern and eastern England, mostly with a couple of friends. I’ve made my way from Land’s End to John O’Groats (or vice-versa) by three different and somewhat unusual routes, I've travelled a fair bit of the Sustrans National Cycle Network, and I've explored almost every country lane and bridleway in my home county of Surrey and many in neighbouring East Hampshire. I've put together this website to help you share the fun I've had. Whether you're planning an End to End trip of your own or just an afternoon's cycling, I hope the information you'll find here will be useful.
