I am a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. My research is primarily based in the Somatosensory Lab of Dr. Kenneth Johnson in the Krieger Mind/Brain Institute . I am also affiliated with the of Dr. Andreas Andreou I am interested in understanding perception. Specifically, how does the brain construct a representation that makes efficient object recognition possible? Decades of work have shown that this representation is gradually constructed in cortex. Current and past projects

mRNAs of the yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, have modified 5' termini similar but not identical with those present in the higher eukaryotes. Poly(A)-containing RNA isolated from spheroplasts or from polysomes of cells labeled with [methyl-3H]methoionine or 32Pi contain methylated, blocked 5'-terminal structures of composition: m7G(5')pppAp and m7G(5')pppGp, occurring in a relative distribution of 75% and 25%, respectively. Furthermore there is no N6-methyladenosine nor any other

The history of the mrdanga in ISKCON
His Divine Grace
A.C. Bhaktivedanta
Swami Prabhupada When Srila Prabhupada boarded the Jaladuta to sail from Calcutta to New York in 1965, his mission was to establish temples all over the world. On board the ship he had 40 rupees, a trunk of books and a pair of karatals (hand cymbals). He did not have a mrdanga with him. In 1965 he incorporated his new Movement and the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) was born. As the Movement began to spread, new followers joined and new temples opened. Srila Prabhupada arranged to have the first mrdangas (clay drums) shipped from India so that his new disciples could play this traditional Vaisnava instrument in kirtans When the first mrdangas arrived in the temples, devotees started picking them up and practicing. Essentially, without a teacher, they taught themselves how to play. Although Srila Prabhupada himself did give one or two mrdanga lessons to some of his early students, by and large most devotees learned either by experimentation or from someone else who had learned from experimentation. Thus a wave of "ISKCON style"

A short story by Rabindranath Tagore
Living Or Dead?
Living Or Dead? I The widow in the house of Saradasankar, the Ranihat zemindar, had no
kinsmen of her father's family. One after another all had died. Nor had
she in her husband's family any one she could call her own, neither
husband nor son. The child of her brother-in-law Saradasankar was her
darling. Far a long time after his birth, his mother had been very ill,
and the widow, his aunt Kadambini, had fostered him. If a woman fosters
another's child, her love for him is all the stronger because she has
no claim upon him-no claim of kinship, that is, but simply the claim of
love. Love cannot prove its claim by any document which society accepts,
and does not wish to prove it; it merely worships with double passion
its life's uncertain treasure. Thus all the widow's thwarted love went out to wards this little child. One night in Sraban Kadambini died suddenly. For some reason her heart stopped beating. Everywhere else the world held on its course; only m this gentle little breast

A short story by Rabindranath Tagore
The Renunciation
The Renunciation
I It was a night of full moon early in the month of Phalgun. The youthful
spring was everywhere sending forth its breeze laden with the fragrance
of mango-blossoms. The melodious notes of an untiring papiya (One of the
sweetest songsters in Bengal. Anglo-Indian writers have nicknamed it the
"brain-fever bird," which is a sheer libel.), concealed within the thick
foliage of an old lichi tree by the side of a tank, penetrated a
sleepless bedroom of the Mukerji family. There Hemanta now restlessly
twisted a lock of his wife's hair round his finger, now beat her churl
against her wristlet until it tinkled, now pulled at the chaplet of
flowers about her head, and left it hanging over hex face. His mood was that of as evening breeze which played about a favourite flowering shrub, gently shaking her now this side, now that, in the hope of rousing her to animation. But Kusum sat motionless, looking out of the open window, with eyes
