Guitar City
Chippewa Street, Buffalo Guitar City, a two-day street jam, took place in the thriving Chippewa entertainment district on Saturday and Sunday, June 18 and 19. With over 15 artists on the bill, Guitar City showcased some of the finest international and local guitar talent. Some of the featured artists were: Kaki King, Grady, Popa Chubby, Agent Me, and the Matadors. Below you will find pictures and biographies on most of the bands that performed at this past Guitar City. Sponsored by: Kaki King Kaki King is a feisty, five-foot, funny, outspoken Atlanta transplant who now lives in New York, a city whose energy is almost equal to her own. She also happens to be the most exciting solo guitarist/composer to have come along in decades. On her upcoming album, Legs to Make Us Longer (Epic), she blazes through a set of original works with an intensity that reflects her world the subway platform gigs, the late shifts at the Mercury Lounge, the surreptitious intermission entrances into Lincoln Center to catch some Stravinsky more than the new age stupor that most solo guitar music seems to induce. Her music is as contradictory as the city itself. On the first track, "Frame," her guitar tolls like bells beneath an iron sky. Right after that, "Playing With Pink Noise" dashes in and out of traffic, with pistons pumping. On "Ingots" a steady, four-beat thump keeps time, a pulse beating as she runs through vistas of sound.

    Jack Ruby On Trial
Sat September 10th at 1:00am Sun September 11th at 9:00am On November 24th, 1963 before the eyes of eighty million television viewers, Dallas nightclub owner, Jack Ruby, fatally shot Lee Harvey Oswald-heightening the intrigue surrounding the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The question on everyone's mind: was it a conspiracy?
The Warren Commission report is released on September 24th, 1964. It states that there is no evidence connecting Ruby to the mob or to Oswald and affirms the official position that Oswald acted alone. Not all Americans accept the conclusions reached by the commission.
To this day, the JFK assassination and Ruby's motivation for killing Oswald, remain the greatest murder mysteries of the 20th century.

    Summary History of the Society
The following summary is compiled from the Society's surviving records of value, including the first two dozen or so issues of the Queensland Wargamer , newsletters from 1988 to 1999, and the electronic records kept on this website. Unfortunately, a great deal of the Society's history is now obscure, particularly in the early years. What is known, however, is that the Society has been in continuous existence since 1978 (making us the oldest unmerged gaming society in Queensland - one of the clubs that merged to form Brisbane Independent Gamers started slightly earlier - and one of the oldest social clubs at the University of Queensland), despite often having problems finding people willing to help manage and administer the Society. By Russ Kingman Eddie Albert was anxious to go with me. An interview with a reporter from the Los Angeles Times indicated that he was even more anxious to get back. "That story haunted me as we walked. It was about a miner who stepped in an alkaline stream and got his foot wet and desperately tried to build a fire before the foot froze." "Well, we were wet; the temperature was dropping. I began to feel the fear that London put in that story." Dick North, Museum Consultant on Jack London Memorabilia for Alaska and the Yukon Territory, went to Dawson City, and hired a dog team owned by Joe Henry and his son Victor. They were joined by two other dog teams driven by Rudy Burian and his son Robin. No doubt about it! There on the back wall was the blaze made by Jack MacKenzie and there was the knot that would surely match the knot hole shown in the picture of the slab. The above signature was found on a log above the upper bunk on the back wall of the Henderson Creek cabin.

    Knowledge Management
It is remarkable how long the term "Knowledge Management" has lasted given that it is such nonsense. You can increase the likelihood of connections, you can increase the chances that such connections will result in one person helping another and you can help create a culture in which helping each other is a good thing but you sure as hell can't manage knowledge. Anyone who tries to convince you otherwise should be immediately suspected as a charlatan. July 11, 2005 Permalink

Langston's childhood was spent in the care of friends and relatives throughout the midwest and northeast. He moved frequently and felt abandoned. In an attempt to deal with his loneliness, Langston began to write poetry. He was a frequent visitor to the local library. Langston believed in books more than people. While attending high school, Langston was active in many extra curricular activities including the school magazine. Many of his published poems showed the influence of his favorite poets, Carl Sandburg and Walt Whitman. The themes were often of social injustices and what it meant to be black. Realizing he couldn't depend on his parents for financial support, he began to work and save his money for college. He published his first poem in Brownies Book , a new magazine for black children. Jack-in-the-Box Faith: The Religion Problem in Modern American History
    Jon Butler
It has seldom been possible, much less wise, to assess American history before the Civil War without taking religion seriously. The Puritans fascinated nineteenth-century historians and novelists alike, although the portraits left by Nathaniel Hawthorne and Herman Melville easily outlasted those crafted by George Bancroft or even the truculent Brooks Adams. Then in the 1930s Samuel Eliot Morison and Perry Miller transformed the Puritans' crabbed image by taking them seriously as intellectuals. "Puritanism was one of the major expressions of the Western intellect," Miller proclaimed, and his reassessment stimulated an outpouring of American Puritan studies that continued into the 1990s. This mountainous scholarship not only revised our view of the Puritans, but led to a renaissance in American historical writing generally.

Save a personal copy of this article and quickly find it again with Furl.net. It's free! Save it. FOR THE LAST FIVE DECADES Jack T. Chick has been writing tiny comic books about damnation. In the pocket-size tracts, people are stabbed, burned alive, and eaten by snakes. There is cannibalism and human sacrifice. The apocalyptic works are equal parts hate literature and fire-and-brimstone sermonizing, with a tough-guy Christ"Jesus is not a weak fairy," he writesas protagonist. Chick, a fundamentalist Christian and president of a Rancho Cucamonga-based publishing company, wants his books to scare the hell out of you. The format is invitingso small, so handy; mostly pictures. The first panel immediately plunges you into the action, as a paramedic huddles over Bobby, a teen who just overdosed on speed (we know this because the paramedic tells the crowd "HE OVERDOSED ON SPEED!"). "Wow! What a drag!" thinks one by-stander. An elderly man preaches the gospel to a kid and is mocked and beaten by a man in a leisure suit. The bully drives off with the kid; their car is immediately hit by a speeding train. "YAAAAAA!" they scream. In the next panel they're in the Inferno.
