This 5 page paper considers the background and contributions of Abu Abdullah Muhammad Ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi, better known in the west as the founder of algorithms. The paper looks at the wide range of contributions made by this Muslim genius from the ninth century CE and the way they have been key to later mathematical and scientific developments of later years. As the Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank it is felt that his words can cause the stock market to rise or fall. Be that as it may, Greenspan has a fascinating history with the Federal Reserve Bank, as this paper will describe. Topics include the amount of power actually wielded by Alan Greenspan, the type of leader he is, his biography, plus some interesting little-known facts about this man that some people look up to and some love to hate. Bibliography lists 6 sources. Filename: JGAgspan.rtf

HIS GREAT HOUR
So the fiat had gone forth, with no concession to be made on account of weather. As Oswald came from his supper and took a look at the heavens from the small front porch, he was deeply troubled that Orlando had remained so obstinate on this point. For there were ominous clouds rolling up from the east, and the storms in this region of high mountains and abrupt valleys were not light, nor without danger even to those with feet well planted upon mother earth. If the tempest should come up before eight! Suddenly Mr. Challoner spoke. It was Oswald who answered. She had been down on her knees regulating the lantern, and the sudden flame, shooting up, had shown him her face turned up towards his in an apprehension which verged on horror. But Oswald did not seem satisfied. He continued to look at her in vague concern. He hardly knew what to make of the intense feeling she had manifested. Had Orlando touched her girlish heart? Had this cold-blooded nature, with its steel-like brilliancy and honourable but stern views of life, moved this warm and sympathetic soul to more than admiration? The thought disturbed him so he forgot the nearness of the moment they were all awaiting till a quick rasping sound from the hangar, followed by the sudden appearance of an ever-widening band of light about its upper rim, drew his attention and awakened them all to a breathless expectation. As they listened in a trance of burning hope which obliterated all else, this noise and all others near and distant, was suddenly lost in a loud clatter of writhing and twisting boughs which set the forest in a roar and seemed to heave the air about them.

Pell Grant system reformed
By JACKIE WOMACK The federal government wants to both give and take from college students.
But they could also wind up with fewer options and less chance of getting a student loan since the increase in Pell Grants would come from the federal student loan program. " I think it is better to keep it the way it is or if [the government] tries to increase Pell Grant, do it without decreasing student loans. " -JOSE SANDOVAL
Business major Jose Sandoval, a business major who receives Pell Grant aid, said it was a bad idea.
Maria Hernandez, director of financial aid said, the amount of Pell Grant awards have not increased in the last three years.
Recreation major Ashley Ford said financial aid is very important.
Junior Anna Garcia said it was a bad plan.
She said 9,400-9,500 students have been offered loans at Fresno State and about 60 percent of students accepted the loans offered to them.

Alexander Pell earned his Ph.D. at the Johns Hopkins University in 1897. In his fortieth year, he was somewhat old to be taking a doctorate there, but age did not prevent him from immediately securing the headship of the Department of Mathematics at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. Pell remained in South Dakota until 1908, creating in 1907 and serving as the first Dean of the University's School of Engineering, participating in meetings of the American Mathematical Society, pursuing new ideas in differential geometry, and publishing the fruits of his researches in the pages of the Society's Transactions as well as in Hopkins's American Journal of Mathematics Sergei Degaev was born in Moscow in 1857. The son of a military physician, he was a member of the Russian upper middle class, attended a series of military, artillery, and engineering-oriented academies, and participated actively in the revolutionary group, the People's Will, which aimed to assassinate Tsar Alexander II. From 1879 and the founding of the People's Will to 1881 and the assassination of Alexander to 1884 and his flight from Russia, Degaev "played an intricate and equivocal game to keep at bay alike the police and the terrorists" (p. 88). Sergei Degaev and his Russian revolutionary wife, Liubov Nikolaevna Ivanova, took the names Alexander and Emma Pell upon their naturalizations as United States citizens on 21 September, 1891. They shared a new life in America until Emma's death in 1904.

Now the other day Moz was in Bombay and I took him to see the city. We went loafing in South Bombay to these fancy malls, which have burgeoned all over urban India. These lovely sweet smelling malls with escalators, air conditioning, un-spat walls, well-dressed attendants, clean loos and computerized bills are in stark contrast to the world I live in daily. I call these the sparkling temples of modern India and my dear friend Moz insists that my usage of "Nehruisms", in such a trivial manner, is preposterous. I quipped back that in times such as these Nehru should be glad that someone quotes him at all.
Now after a while Moz tired of the window-shopping and said that he wanted to have some chai and something to eat. Now between a writer and socialist there is never enough to buy those lovely pizzas and pastas. Chai in the mall costs 15 bucks and paani puris were Rs. 20 for 5. (Now I know that they use Mineral water for paani puris and they have clean plates but 20 bucks for 5?) I told Moz that this place was meant for tourists and that I would get him real Bombay stuff, the vada pav and Cutting chai.
So we stepped out from Pleasure Island back into Goo-land and started making our way through the crowds to my favourite vada pav stall. Anna who ran the stall was an old friend of mine and I had been a regular for the last many years. On reaching the place where he had conducted business for so many years I found that his handcart was no longer there. Neither was the guy who sold Cutting chai next to him. Moz began taking jibes at my sense of direction and kept insisting we were in the wrong place. I wondered if he was right since most of the stalls were gone and yet this had to be the place since the McDonalds was at the corner of this road.

"Mansize Rooster" is a Dave Clark Five rave and "Time" is an obviousbut completely deliciousnod to John Lennon 's bluesier efforts, while "Sofa Of My Lethargy" reminds the listener of John's swims in lysergic acid. A WORK OF visionary, and fun, psychedelic rock craft when it was first released in '67, this remains so in its remastered reincarnation. Tragic pop balladry sketching out the ups and downs of acne ("Odorono") fit neatly beside thundering rock swagger/paranoia ("I Can See For Miles"). In addition to a handsome, informative booklet (terrific Dave Marsh essay), a slew of bonus tracks extends the length to 71 minutes. Of note: a tough heavy metal Coke commercial, bootleg staples "Glittering Girl" and "Early Morning Cold Taxi," familiar sounding pre- Tommy excursions "Jaguar" and "Glow Girl," and an amazing, Who-freakout arrangement of Grieg's "Hall Of The Mountain King."

Vacances
Vacances. I demà divendres comencen unes vacances que semblen prometedores...
