Riccardo was the donating twin, giving 800 grams of his liver to his identical twin brother after Alessandro began suffering from hepato blastoma following a sports-related injury.
Here's more on this fascinating medical surgery, including brief mentions of the first time identical twins successfully donated livers to each other 50 years ago in Boston.

Dr. Peter Milne The Uniqueness of Negation Abstract In response to Prior's *tonk* Belnap proposed two constraints that have to be met by rules governing the introduction and elimination of a logical constant, conservativeness and uniqueness. The former has been much discussed by the PrawitzDummett proof-theoretic semantics school. I focus on uniqueness, distingushing various conceptions. One notion is taken from John Harris's 'What's So Logical about the "Logical" Axioms?' (*Studia Logica* XLI 1982). Harris shows that modulo logical equivalence no language can contain two negations governed by the standard intuitionist introduction and elimination rules. Harris's result fails for some formulations of intuitionist negation. This fact prompts a heuristic employment of Alessandro Padoa's criterion of when a symbol *x* is *irreducible in a system*. The meaning of negation is found not to be uniquely determined in Padoa's sense. A precise syntactic translational criterion for uniqueness, suggested by the semantic findings, is formulated. According to it, intuitionist conjunction, disjunction and the conditional are unique but negation is not. Addition of a possibly infinitary negation introduction rule secures uniqueness of negation. This rule has previously been proposed by Dummett for reasons connected with conservativeness.

Hubert Kennedy Hubert Kennedy, PhD, is a Research Associate at the Center for Research and Education in Sexuality at San Francisco State University. He has over 200 publications in several languages, from an analysis of the mathematical manuscripts of Karl Marx and a revelation of Marx's homophobia, to theoretical genetics and a proof of the impossibility of an organism that requires more than two sexes in order to reproduce. In addition, Dr. Kennedy has written biographies of the Italian mathematician Giuseppe Peano and the German homosexual emancipationist/theorist Karl Heinrich Ulrichs, and has edited the collected writings of Ulrichs. His translations of the boy-love novels of the German anarchist writer John Henry Mackay and his investigations of the writings of Mackay have helped establish Mackay's place in the gay canon. Dr. Kennedy also translated selections from Der Eigene for the volume Homosexuality and Male Bonding in Pre-Nazi Germany , coedited with Harry Oosterhuis, and is the author of The Ideal Gay Man: The Story of Der Kreis.

Date: Sun Mar 12 2000 - 00:14:58 EST Hello Everyone,
I have a very poor copy of a 1930? article Logica that Alessandro Padoa
wrote for the Enciclopedia della matematiche elementari, Volume 1 (Ed.
Berzolari). Milan
In it Padoa compiles a list of Italians who contributed to the study of
logic, including Mario Pieri, Giovanni Vacca (who was an assistant to
Peano), Burali-Forti, and Nagy.
I would appreciate some help with respect to Nagy. Could it have been
Bela Szokefalvi-Nagy (1864-1936)? Regards, Elena Elena Anne Marchisotto Professor of Mathematics California State University, Northridge email: emarchisotto@csun.edu This archive was generated by hypermail 2b28 Sun Mar 12 2000 - 00:26:24 EST

Dear Elena,
For what it is worth, let me say that Albino Nagy was born in
the little town of Trau (Dalmatia) on October 2, 1866, and died
in Rome on March 26, 1900.
During the period 1893-1896, Nagy was professor of Logic at the

by Anna Padoa Rizzo Artist of great speculative intellect, interested in the problems of scientific perspective according to the contemporaries in an obsessive manner, and experimental, enjoyed great fame and respect in his time, but he was also relatively little understood, exactly for the "difficulty" of his artistic manner.
He had married a noblewoman in Florence, Antonia di Giovanni di Castello Del Beccuto, of a family which lived in the area of Santa Maria Maggiore, where the family owned three chapels, one of which dedicated to St Blaise: this is not insignificant as regards Paolo's cultural and professional training. He was orphaned at a very young age but he did not however find himself in economic difficulty, and could certainly always count on his good relations with, and protection of, his mother's prestigious family, who introduced him to many important Florentine customers. (Padoa Rizzo, op. cit. 1991, p.6).
