Daffron (Missing) Source: Compiled by Homecoming II Project 31 April 1990 from one or more of the following: raw data from U.S. Government agency sources, correspondence with POW/MIA families, published sources, interviews. Updated by the P.O.W. NETWORK 1998. REMARKS: SYNOPSIS: When North Vietnam began to increase their military strength in South Vietnam, NVA and Viet Cong troops again intruded on neutral Laos for sanctuary, as the Viet Minh had done during the war with the French some years before. The border road, termed the "Ho Chi Minh Trail" was used for transporting weapons, supplies and troops. Hundreds of American pilots were shot down trying to stop this communist traffic to South Vietnam. Fortunately, search and rescue teams in Vietnam were extremely successful and the recovery rate was high. Still there were nearly 600 who were not rescued. Many of them went down along the Ho Chi Minh Trail and the passes through the border mountains between Laos and Vietnam. Many were alive on the ground and in radio contact with search and rescue and other planes; some were known to have been captured. Hanoi's communist allies in Laos, the Pathet Lao, publicly spoke of American prisoners they held, but when peace agreements were negotiated, Laos was not included, and not a single American was released that had been held in Laos.

THE INTEGRITY PAPERS - James N. Rose http://www.ceptualinstitute.com On wednesday September 24, 1997 I had an interesting serendipitous meeting with Richard Morley while I attended the New England Complex Systems Institute's 1st International Conference on Complex Systems in Nashua, New Hampshire. Actually, he detained me after the day's activities, intently inquiring who I was, since I had appeared at the proceedings quite the rebel interloper, against the standard mantra of Complexty theorists many of whom are of Nobel status. Apparently I had caught someone's attention and there was need to guage if I were troublesome to their immediate plans or not. There are many agendas in any given situation and not all of them innocent or highmindedly academic. Concepts like complexity are being applied and evaluated in realtime human systems world wide with vested interests involved. But I'll leave that for another telling.
One of the more engaging moments of Morley's and my conversation was when he suggested that if I really wanted to disseminate my ideas in a broad way, finding an audience which would pick up on my concepts and be more open to subtle influence, that I should consider writing a science fiction work, incorporating my ceptualizations. The immediate thorn would be removed, my ideas would have fertile soil, and with a little bit of good luck there would be a nice bank account to satisfy the needs of my growing family. Quite the plum.

The History of Western Division
TCA Western Division celebrated it's "50th Anniversary" in 2004. The Train Collectors Association was founded in Yardley, Pennsylvania in July of 1954. The first meeting was held in the barn of noted rail historian Ed Alexander. In the same year, collectors on the west coast met and organized the first division of TCA - the Western Division. The organizing meeting was held Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1954 at the home of Dick Wheeler, 801 Oakdale Road, in Monrovia, California. The result of these two meetings was the formation of the Train Collectors Association (TCA) with Burton Logan being the first president of National, and Evan Middleton serving as President of Western Division. Western Division was the first TCA division formed.

Morley Gunderson Prize
The purpose of the Morley Gunderson Prize is to recognize and honour current students or graduates who combine outstanding professional achievement with significant service to the Centre. Nominations may be submitted by current students, graduates, faculty and staff at any time to the Director of the Centre. A selection committee considers all nominations, and the presentation of the award is a highlight of the annual Sefton Lecture, co-sponsored by the Centre and Woodsworth College of the University of Toronto each spring. This prize was established in 1997 as a tribute to Morley Gunderson's 10 years as Director of the Centre for Industrial Relations. Morley career at the University of Toronto and the CIR began in 1971. He was responsible for the design of the Master of Industrial Relations program in the '70s and initiated the PhD program in the '80s. From 1985 to 1997, Morley served as Director of the Centre. His fundraising initiatives in 1997 resulted in the establishment of an endowment fund of over $1 million for student fellowships. The Morley Gunderson Prize is modelled after Morley's own career, which exhibits outstanding accomplishments as a scholar and researcher in industrial relations, simultaneous with great contributions to the activities and goals of the Centre.

Morley's Trisection Theorem In Proposition 4 of Book IV of the Elements, Euclid inscribes a circle inside an arbitrary triangle by showing that the bisectors of any two of the interior angles meet at a point equidistant from the three edges. Since there is only one such point, it follows that the bisectors of all three angles meet at the same point. Letting 2 a b , and 2 g denote the three interior angles of a triangle, the law of sines implies that the edge lengths are proportional to the sines of these angles, so we can scale the triangle to make the edge lengths equal to these sines as shown below. Since a b g p /2, the central angles are g p b p /2, and a p /2, and the law of sines gives the ratios Making use of the double-angle formula we can substitute for the sines of 2 g b and 2 a in the previous ratios and simplify to give Hence by the sine rule we see that the point of intersection is a distance of from each of the three edges, which confirms that this point is the center of the inscribed circle. Now, since the bisectors of a triangle meet at a single point (a fact which is not entirely self-evident), it seems natural to go on to consider how the tri sectors of a triangle meet. However, Euclid apparently didn't consider this question, nor did anyone else for over 2000 years. (Of course, it's impossible to trisect an arbitrary angle using Euclidean methods, i.e., by straight-edge and compass, so Euclid obviously couldn't have used trisectors in any constructions, but he could still have proven some interesting theorems about trisectors if he had wished.) It wasn't until 1899 that Frank Morley (one time was president of the American Mathematical Association) discovered that lines trisecting the angles of an arbitrary plane triangle meet at the vertices of an equilateral triangle as illustrated in the figure below, where the central triangle (in blue) is equilateral.

This list includes names of persons Peirce sent letters to and/or received letters from, either probably or certainly, and names of people who wrote letters concerning Peirce, a few of which Peirce had copies of, that have been retrieved in different archives. The list also includes names of institutions. We strongly wish that readers interested in this list would look for a number of the names in their local archives in the hope of finding new Peirce-related letters. We expect that thousands of letters by Peirce still survive in unsearched archives both in the U.S. and abroad. Please join the effort in their recovery!
