Home Page/Research Interests Amy Dunham’s Publications: Amy Dunham’s Personal links Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology Ph.D. Ecology and Evolution Stony Brook University (2003) Research Interests: My research interests in ecology include community/ecosystem ecology, plant-animal interactions, and population ecology/modeling, particularly as related to the applied field of conservation biology.  Recent and ongoing studies and collaborations include: (1) effects of losing functional biodiversity on ecosystem processes, (2) the effects of vertebrate disturbances on plant recruitment, (3) population viability and conservation of threatened wildlife, and (4) an examination of the biases inherent in population viability analyses predictions Theoretical and field study of ecological communities :  I have a strong interest in community ecology and understanding species interactions, and the implications they have for conservation and management priorities. The conditions under which behavioral and trophic interactions result in cascading trophic effects particularly interest me.  My p revious work in the rainforests of Ivory Coast has examined the effects of invertebrate predation by a guild of fragmentation-sensitive birds and mammals on a complex web of litter fauna.

Milne, Edward Arthur (1896-1950)
British mathematician and physicist who in his Modern Cosmology and the Christian Idea of God (1952) confronts the problem of the doctrine of incarnation in the light of the possible discovery of extraterrestrial intelligence (see incarnation and redemption God's most notable intervention in the actual historical process, according to the Christian outlook, was the Incarnation. Was this a unique event, or has it been re-enacted on each of the countless number of planets? The Christian would recoil in horror from such a conclusion. We cannot imagine the Son of God suffering vicariously on each of a myriad of planets. The Christian would avoid this conclusion by the definite supposition that our planet is in fact unique. What then of the possible denizens of other planets, if the Incarnation occurred only on our own? We are in deep waters here, in a sea of great mysteries. Milne offers a possible solution in the form of radio messages sent out from Earth into interstellar space. By this means, he suggests, we might convey the news of a unique terrestrial incarnation to other races. The idea was denounced by Eric L.

Milne, Edward Arthur
English astrophysicist and mathematician who formulated a theory of relativity which he called kinematic relativity, parallel to Albert Einstein's general theory.
Milne was born in Hull, Yorkshire, and studied at Cambridge, where he spent his academic career until 1925. He then moved to Manchester as professor of mathematics. From 1929 he was professor at Oxford.
Studying stellar structure, Milne suggested that a decrease in luminosity might cause the collapse of a star, and that this would be associated with nova formation. Some of his cosmological theories were developed with Irish astrophysicist William McCrea
In 1932, Milne began his attempt to explain the properties of the universe by kinematics (the movement of bodies). Basing his theory on Euclidean space and on Einstein's special theory of relativity alone, Milne was able to formulate systems of theoretical cosmology, dynamics, and electrodynamics. He also gave a more acceptable estimate for the overall age of the universe (10,000 million years) than that provided by the general theory of relativity.

Arthur Milne was born in Hull where his father, Sidney Milne, was the headmaster of a Church of England school. His mother, Edith Cockcroft, was also a teacher. Arthur was the oldest of his parents' three children, all boys, all of whom became scientists. The family moved to Hessle, near Hull, when Arthur was nine years old. Before this he had been attending his father's school. Milne attended Hymers College (an endowed school) in Hull for his secondary schooling and from there he won an open scholarship in mathematics and natural science to study at Trinity College, Cambridge. It was a remarkable achievement for not only did he win this scholarship in 1914, he gained the largest number of marks which had ever been awarded in the examination. At Cambridge, in the eighteen months during which he studied there, he was inspired by Chapman and Hardy Milne's defective eyesight prevented him from active service in World War I. However, in 1916 he joined a team working on ballistics at the Anti-Aircraft Section. Meg Weston Smith writes in [11]:-

Identification
Propithecus diadema edwardsi is one of the largest lemurs in Madagascar (and the largest lemur at RNP). The fur is mostly black (or dark brown) with one large white patch on its lower back, that extends to its sides like a saddle.
Propithecus diadema edwardsi at RNP
There are at least four P. diadema edwardsi groups in the Talatakely Trail System at RNP, some of which have been followed since 1986 by Patricia Wright and her guides. The following data are mostly from her work ( Wright 1995 ), and from Claire Hemingway's study at Vato ( Hemingway, 1995 Group II's territory includes the research station and consists of GO (Green Orange) breeding female; P (Pink) breeding male and their offspring. Group I is adjacent and most often seen by tourists. TS (Teal Silver) is the breeding female; R (Red) is a twenty old male; YS (Yellow Silver), B (Brown) are younger males in the group.
