Elemosina's kroniek toont evenwel een grotere eruditie, een betere taalvaardigheid en bestrijkt een groter geografisch gebied (o.a. verslagen van Palestina). Het is daarom ook minder een echte regionale kroniek van Umbrië en Gualdo. De kroniek van Elemosina is bewaard gebleven in twee autografen (Daarnaast zijn er twee handschriften van een curieuze zestiende-eeuwse vervalsing onder de naam van Joannes de Capistrano (ms Rome, Bibl. Vat. Fonds Chigi I, VII, 262; ms Rome, Bibl. Corsini, 776 (39 G2)). Er zijn geen volledige edities voorhanden, wel uitvoerige besprekingen door Ruggero Guerrieri, François Fossier en I. Heullant-Donat. Daarin staat met name de relatie tussen de kronieken van Elemosina en Paulus en hun brongebruik centraal.

Westfall Y ou will find that these thoughts have been set down at different stages of the project. A s I write these lines, I am nearing the end of the process of purging the list from the DSB in order to establish the final list for the catalogue. At least two major problems have emerged: continuity and classification. [This was the first entry in this file; further thoughts have been added at later times.] I T C losely associated with medicine is another continuous tradition, natural history. By the end of the 17th century, at least the major figures within it, such as Ray and Tournefort, saw themselves as part of the scientific community and could in no way be eliminated. Since I see no way to draw a line, I include all within the tradition of natural history. I n a different way, mathematics is equally difficult. Again there is a continuous tradition fed at once by Greek geometry and by commercial arithmetic. I am excluding only those who are wholly trivial. From the early decades there are some, left in, who were hardly more than teachers.
